This is my very first post. I have a 2003 Excursion Limited. PROBLEM: At 80 mph I have a slight vibration and a very noticable roar coming from the rear of the vehicle. I don't know if it is the drive shaft or the limited slip differential but I'm fairly sure it is from that area of the car. I only have 2,500 miles on the vehicle and the problem started as soon as I drove it off the dealership lot. I'm positive that it is not the tires or wheels. From 0 to 80 the ride is perfect and only starts at 80 mph. Before I take it back to the dealership to have them look at it I would love to hear some ideas what it might be. I have had some real nightmares with dealerships not finding the problem to my vehicles. |

Hey Brian, welcome!
The solution to your problem is clear - don't drive over 75mph. Just kidding.
When I got my 2000 X used it had about 45,000 miles. It had a terrible resonance and vibration, and it turned out to be the rear drive shaft. It was out of round. My dealer fixed it free of charge and I have had no problems since. My X would do it's thing at any speed above 45 or so. At 65 it was almost painful to be in the cab. Now it is quiet and civil.
I don't have any idea how you would be able to check your drive shaft without proper tools and/or equipment. I would suspect a dealer would be the best place to take it. Good luck and let us know how it comes out.

Thank you for the response. This sounds like it could be the problem. I will take this info to the dealer.
