something new we have learned is that air cleaner button may go to red sooner than expected because chip pulls more air. i have noticed this in my X . the air cleaner pulls in more bugs and stuff as compared to not having a chip. keep a closer eye on your air cleaner guys. you may need to change it more often.

Steve
the X has a button(gauge) on the air cleaner housimg that tells you when you are getting close for air filter replacement. we have found that having a chip( performance enhancement computer program from the aftermarket) will tend to plug air cleaner sooner than normal. this happens because you are sucking more air at a faster velocity. i just wanted you guys with chips to monitor you air filter more often. i also would like to know (and you must look at your old air cleaner carefully) is the wire mesh support(for the paper element) bent at all. in other words, wire mesh(looks kinda like chicken wire and supports accordian paper filter). is it flat or does it have a bow in it. the bow will be caused by extreme air velocity. the bow tells you where the air is going and means time to find better filter that will flow more evenly.

hope this helps, regards mike

Good tip Gearman!!!
but, I don't think it a direct function of the chip....

isn't it more more of an indirect function of the chip ?

the Fun-Factor when you punch it MAKES you punch it more...
so it needs more air :-)

Given that coorelation then
the chip sounds like it's an addiction we need a 'treatment' session for...
like a night at the strip VAROOOM !

Steve, do you have a gas engine? Gearman is talking about diesels which have the little air cleaner hootey. The V8 and V10 don't have this.

you are correct. i am just trying to make you guys aware that a chip will require you to change air filters more often and possibly go to better quality(stronger aftermarket filter).
