I am currently running PIAA Xtreme White Plus bulbs for my headlights which makes the fog lights look really bad (Yellow). PIAA claims they do not make bulbs for this application, and Ford gave me part number XL3Z13466A which none of my local shops can match up to anything. Does anyone know of a replacement bulb that will look similar to the PIAA's without causing any electrical damage? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks......

Interesting question. Don't know of any particular bulbs. My approach would be to try to replace the entire foglight assembly with one that actually puts out light.
Anyone out there tried this?

I installed 65/W Silver Stars in my fogs, Got them off of Ebay, And built my own HD harness. I don`t know if the stock harness can handle the larger watt bulbs. It took about hour to make and install.

So, did you install a heavier duty switch also? What is the wattage of the stock lamps? Anyone know?

I took the weak 37w 9145's out and put in 65w 9005's in mine and thus far NO PROBLEMS !!!
I use them as day time running lights, and the 9005's are MUCH brighter...
My next step is the new wiring harness for the headlamps from SUVLIGHTS.com...

Nope. Used the hot lead off of the fogs to trigger the relays which are wired direct to the batt. When runnig they recieve 14,4V. JOHNBOY, while your at it, install a Brite Box, or make your own, so the dims stay on with the brites.

Like Mongo, I installed the SilverStars in both my headlights and my fog lights. Easily one of the best upgrades (besides the longer wiper blades) that I've done. Super white, longer range, and definitely brighter. Worth every penny.
FWIW, I didn't upgrade my wiring harness and it looks fine--no melted spots :-)
The stock bulbs are 37W each and the SilverStars are advertised at 70W--about twice the current draw (about 5.1 amps for the stock bulbs and 9.7 amps for the SilverStars at 14.4v). A difference of 5 amps seems like a lot (although if you're only getting 12-13v at the lamps, you're drawing more) but I don't think that's too hot for the stock harness. Upgrading the harness will reduce the voltage drop and THAT will make the lights appear brighter and draw less current. Maybe that's what all the "upgrade your harness" discussion is about.
I know the stock harness is OK because I *just* this past weekend installed four Hella 4000's on the front bumper and had a chance to look over the wiring in detail (a pain to install on the bumper--I'll post a blurb later and some pics) and ran a fully switched harness direct from the battery for the new lights. I now have two 4000 pencil beams in the middle flanked by two 4000 fogs on the outside. Can't ask for much more light than that. I run my low beams with the fogs on all day/night, so if there were a high amp/heat problem with the stock harness, I'm sure I'd find it quick.
Has anyone upgraded their bulbs and actually *personally* experienced a capacity problem with the stock harness? The stock wiring seems pretty beefy to me--at least able to handle the 9-10 amp draw for the SilverStars.
As usual, JMHO.
