i noticed tranny hunting for a gear at 45-50 mph. is this something to be concerned about or does the tranny have a little trouble here. it is worse when towing a 3300 pound boat. i also noticed that when going upwards of 50 mph if i take foot off gas and then resume things dont line back up very smoothy and a thump is the result.definitly a question for gearman.

get the X scanned for codes. ( i realize i sound like a broken record with this scan stuff) but its important. without a scan, you could be throwing money at the problem blindly. too many so called "techs" have the attitude that if you replace everything under the vehichle, problem should be solved. your problem sounds like a speed sensor or nuetral switch. (MPLS sensor). i will get back to you on the diode. i will find out as close as i can when Ford did this. we get surprised all the time by what we find installed (parts wise). seems they use up everything on the floor. 1998 was the worst year as far as parts. we never know what to order till we tear it down.

i had a new speed sensor and bearsings put in 3 months ago under extended warranty. there were metal shavings all over the sensor. maybe something is chewing the bearins up again.
