I know this has been asked, but didnt see any specific replies, i am looking at gettting a tuner for my 00 7.3 ex, what do you recommend??? Superchip, Diablo, Edge evolution, Hypermax??? and how will the exhaust temps read, i dont want a very hot chip, but would like to have 40, 60 or 80, but dont want to trash the tranny, will the tranny hold up to 80 or should i run in the 60 range?? what should i do about tranny upgrades shift kit wise? and with a 60 or 80HP tune will i really need gauges, or is that for the hotter tunes???
lot of questions
thank you for your help

ken J.
dont know if anyone make chips with the increments you posted(40 60 80) they are closer to 40 80 120 or stock 50 90 or so. trans might be ok in the lower horse power ranges of the chip. torque converter will fail some day. (sooner or later). rule of thumb is in the higher hp range of your chip, third and fourth will fail quickly. if you chip, you must address trans and torque converter. i need the money.lol

thanks for your help gearman, the diablo predator has these settings
40 HP / 110 ft/lbs torque (tow tune)
60 HP / 145 ft/lbs torque (economy performance tune)
85 HP / 190 ft/lbs torque (high performance tune)
stock tune + user adjustments
i would most likely use the 60HP at most time, maybe the 40 when towing, maybe the 85 when you start a shop up here in indiana
the edge evolution
1994-03 Ford 7.3L Edge Evolution
3 Levels: Select 10, 50 or 70 hp gains.
here i would most likely use the 50, or 70HP settings
and the SCMT
+110 HP, +200 ft/lb Torque
+90 HP, +175 ft/lb Torque
+70 HP, +150 ft/lb Torque
im afraid that if i had this tuner i would need to make a trip down to see you
but what i would like to know is running in the 40 to 70 HP range if i would need to do any major upgrades to the tranny. i am planning on a shift kit, but i am unsure which one i would need, any help here? and what is this diode thing i keep hearing about, i have a '00 Ex.
thanks for your help

Ken
Rule of thumb is: your trans is disigned to handle 110% of what the engine puts out and thats stretching it. If you install chip and drive like Eric Long, and are as lucky as Eric has been, you will be ok. dont count on it. as far as the diode, that was one of Fords better ideas-Not. it is a ratcheting mechanical clutch that replace the sprag unit (another mechanical clutch) for second gear. they have been failure prone big time.
