I want to put cab lights on my excursion. Anyone know where to get them and where to get installed?

I'm just getting ready to do this and will post my experience.

I ordered the stock 2003 cab light assy's from my local dealer ($8.77 ea) but didn't order the wiring harness as it was $30.00. I figure I can wire them without the harness--no one will ever see the wiring and I don't anticipate having to pull the wiring apart in the future. The assy includes the entire light including gasket, etc.

The clear lenses that APC lists on their website are not in production yet--I was told 6-8 weeks before they arrive from overseas where they are made. When the become available I'll order a set. The kicker is that the 5 lenses will be about $45--the same cost as the whole light assembly. That sucks.

I am going to make a template from a 2003 SuperDuty and mount the lights using that layout so they look stock. Shouldn't be that big a deal.

The wiring harness has plugs for each light. I do believe you will need the plugs to wire them up. I bought the wiring harness and ran it down the drivers side pillar and the push pins fit the truck perfect. I them used only 2 wires and tapped them into the wires behind the headlight switch. If you get the harness I will pull the switch and tell you witch wires you need and the rest get taped up and away. It took me about five hours to do it all I guess. You will have to drop the headliner down in the front. Each light requires 3 holes drilled in the roof. I put 1 step ladder on each side of the truck and used a 2x12 to sit on will I drilled outside.

Scott, why do I need the harness? Can't I just snip the ends of the wires coming from each of the lights, or do the lights have a socket and no pigtails?

I got the cab lights and harness but have not installed them. As Birdman mentioned, you do need the Ford harness as the sockets on the lights are not standard WeatherPac sockets but a proprietary Ford design.

Thought I'd mention that I made a template for the hole pattern for the individual lights (where to drill) if anyone wants a copy. I didn't make a template for the actual placement of the lights yet, but I will before I install them. I will print the template on adhesive backed paper and stick the templates on before drilling just to be sure I have the correct placement.

If anyone doing this mod wants the pdf document of the individual cab light holes, email me at "superford@insolution.com" with the subject line "Cab Light Template Request". Please be sure to get the subject exact as the server will autorespond with the document attached (nice to be the mail server admin). Note your email will not be read by a human, so change the subject if you want to comment.
