I just bought a 2003 Excursion and with ONLY 168 miles on it when the transmission failed. It started to slip and would roll backwards on slight inclines. It then went into what I have been told is "fail safe mode". I had it towed back to the Ford dealer and they say the problen is in the transmission itself. The dealer wants to put a new on in it but Ford said "NO". Ford told the dealer to put a "FQR" aka Ford rebuilt back in it. HELP!!! Email christinatrigg615@hotmail.com

It's now 2/1/03 and a week has past with no luck so far. The truck still sits at the dealer and with Ford still look to put a "rebuilt" in it. I just can not beleive Ford is treating us like this!

Hard to beleive that Ford would put a rebuild in anything woth less than 36K miles. You will see some of my problems and while repairs have not been great (considering the price of the truck), they have been done and all new parts. I also got a full size SUV rental paid by Ford for the 12 days it was in the shop (i don't have any ESP or other warranty). Push them and they will pay. You should not have to, but you have to.

If you have not spoken to your delaer's service director do so. Also talk to other dealers.

You need to send a letter both to the dealer and to Ford. You can call Ford Customer Care but your probably wasting your time, spend six bucks and send the letters registered to FORD and give them a few days to reply and then go straigt to the DRB or Aribitration. In this case you will win hands down, you might be out a truck (perhaps making payments for something that's not fixed for 6 or 8 months) but in the end you will prevail. Be specific, non emotional and first thing to do is demand a new truck (they hate that but you probably have a 100% buyback claim).

On the other hand you could pay the dealer to put in a new transmission and then claim that back from Ford in arbitration.

More than likely they will fix it the way you want.

Don't ya just get tired of hearing stories like this!!! Maybe Ford should consider a new slogan: Customer satisfaction is job #1. Do not settle for rebuilt.
