Well the transmission shop finished installing the Transgo shift kit with torque converter lockup valve, and the results are great! The transmission shifts are quick and firm, nomore mushy shifts.
When the torque converter locks up you know it. The volume of fluid going through the cooler is much greater for the same amount of time. I love it. When I went to pick up the X the owner, manager and I think everyone in the shop was there to meet and talk to me. You would think I had the tranny gold plated the way everyone was talking about how they loved the kit and the way the X drove.(I guess the owner and manager drove it awhile). The manager has a superduty truck and loved the tugger kit so much that he was going to install it on his truck. I love the results and I am sure this will extend the life of the tranny.
Next, either new rear anti sway bar or ball joints.

gomobius...a couple of ?'s (don't answer if they are too personal)
1.) How many miles do you have on your ex?
2.) Do you pull with it, if so, what/how heavy/how often/have you tried it since/any difference? (okay that was like 6 questoins in one... )
3.) What did the job run you $$$$? (this was the personal one I was talking about )

BTS is a good choice or Suncoast. have not ued Royal Purple but i hear its good. tell your trans guy not to use Ford front seal. (grey colored rubber). there should be new black seal out any day now. i am just starting to get them in. these grey seals can cause problems, Ford knows it but there was nothing else till now. it would also be a good idea to talk to converter company direct and tell them your mods and have them pick the right application converter for your X. dont let some parts man pick it for you. you can by your converter from any of BTS or Suncoast dealers but have the right part # in hand.

Scott
i will call sunday if thats ok. i have a busy schedule of golf this weekend with a dying friend Cancer. i want to spend as much time with him as i can. he has been my dentist for almost thirty years. our personalities clashed for all those years (wasted time and so stupid). we are now very close(he changed ,i changed and we both sort of feel pretty dumb and dont talk about it). at least we learn. God, if we could only go back and not be so stupid. sorry to bring this stuff up guys.
regards, mike

Wheels, here are some numbers and facts.
My X has just over 50,000 miles and I have never had any transmission work done.
I do pull a trailer, its about 10,000 lbs. only pull about 2 or 3 times a year and I have not yet pulled anything yet with the shift kit installed. This weekend I am going to haul a large load of firewood for a friend. The trailer is a large tandem axle used to haul construction equipment, tractors, bobcats stuff like that, it should be a good test for the new shift kit.
The total cost was a little over $900.00 for everything. It took the shop 2 days to complete the job. Originally it was $600.00 for the "tugger kit" and installation, however I also wanted the torque converter lock-up valve installed. This changes everything the lock-up valve does not come with the tugger kit and the transmission must now be taken out, thus the higher cost. Plus of course you get new fliud, filter, seals etc.
Beaware I did not have a new torque converter installed. This was a hard decision, I may have one installed in the future. I talked to alot of experts and you definatly can not go wrong with upgrading to an aftermarket converter. Ford's torque converters are not that great when it comes to strength. I decided not to get one right now because I have a V10 and I do not tow very often. From what I have found out the diesels are chewing up factory torque converters, especially if you tow alot. (gearman chime in if I am all wrong).
Also there are variables on how you want the kit installed. Your transmission shop will have to drill some holes. The kit has a range in which the size of these holes can be, this is going to dictate how firm your tranny will shift. I choose the middle of the range, for example if the hole can be between 0.50 - 0.54 I went with 0.52. My transmission shop had installed Transgo kits before, some previous customers wanted everything taken to the max. The shop told me they thought this made the shifts too harsh,( they said your neck will be jerking all the time), so I elected to go middle of the road, and for me it is just right.
gearman was the one that put me onto the Transgo tugger. Thanks alot you are the man!
