(2000 X V-10 Limited 4x4)

As I sort out this new acquisition, I continue to have questions for this forum:

1. At 70 mph, I'm turning about 2450 RPM.......would that most likely indicate 3.73 or 4.30 gears?

2. At about 2200 RPM, I'm experiencing a very noticeable vibration from the drivetrain (just like what you'd experience if the exhaust came in contact with a crossmember/frame/body - however, I've checked, and the exhaust has plenty of clearance along its entire length). This vibration occurs exclusively from about 2200 to 2500 RPM........any source known for this vibration? If so, any cures known?

As always, thanks for your input,

Mine did that when I got it (used) and it turned out to be the drive shaft. It had "excessive runnout". My dealer replaced it at no charge to me. Probably because I had complained and said I would not buy it unless they stopped the vibration/drone.

Another thing they did was put a vibration dampner on the exhaust just behind the muffler.

Let us know what it is. Good luck.

In EVERY gear?

If only in overdrive then I would tend to agree with Rick.

But also check to make sure your front hubs are unlocked properly. Sometimes they can stick.

Thanks for the responses.......

Yes, I get the vibration in every gear (similar to a drone, but you can feel it, rather than just hearing it), which leads me to believe it's an exhaust vibration issue.......Rick, do you know what type of exhaust dampner they used on your exhaust? Is it a Ford problem-solving piece or was it simply a weight of some type? Any way you could take a photo and send it to me? (I hate to ask for that, but I want to try to duplicate the piece you've found to be successful in curing this sensation) When you mentioned the dampner, that sounds exactly like what my truck needs.....please advise

Thanks,

David

AFAIK it is a Ford factory piece.

I'll have it on it's merry way as soon as I finish this post.

I hope it helps. Let me know. Picture will be on its way momentarily.

BTW, sorry it took me so long to reply. I was busy doing "honey-do" jobs all weekend. It was sunny and in the upper 60s all weekend. Beautiful weather!
