After months of searching ads and learning everything I could here, I found just what I was looking for, a 2000 White 4x4 V10 limited with under 50,000 (49600) miles and in mint condition. In it's former life in Arizona it was a suburbia station wagon. No signs of having ever towed anything and the under carriage was spotless. It was on a dealers lot and they were asking $26,800 for it and I settled at $19,500. When I flew in to pick it up it had a bad shimmy that was determined to be cupped front tires. Their dealership motto seems to be "Do the right thing" and they put 4 BFG 285/75/16 AT TA's and a alignment on it and the shimmy was gone. Best dealership I have ever dealt with! I drove it home to Michigan from Phoenix and got 12.7 avg MPG at 80 miles an hour. I couldn't be happier but now I need to do some mods and I need your help.
I assume the cupping was from weak shocks based on complaints about shocks here, but there is no sign of leakage and I don't know how the ride should feel but it seems to float a bit too much. Anybody else have direct experience with cupping and solutions. The tech said it felt fine after the tires were put on and he had to drive it to the Ford Dealership to do the alignment. They said the alignment was almost perfect berfore making any adjustments.
There is still a very small shimmy that seems to be rear tire based, there is no vibration at the steering wheel but the middle seat shakes just enough to make a small ratling noise that I can't pinpoint yet. Sounds like a couple of washers rattling around. Just enough to bother me that it isn't perfect. Sound familar to anyone.
I'm looking to install a SS speed grill. Anyone that can provide some tips on this?
I would like to replace the stereo head unit but not lose the rear controls. I have a Sony Mini-Disc changer that I would like to use and will be adding a rear DVD player and video system. The system does not have the optional CD changer. I bought a Visteon overhead console on eBay that incorporates a screen and replaces the original but now I'm not sure where to find a screen for it. I think it onlys takes a 6.4 screen and I think I might opt not to use it for lack of size. For $15 it was too good to pass up. I think someone here also bought the same product, what screen did you use and are you happy with the size? This will be the only screen in the vehicle.
I only received 1 key and the remote with the truck. I know you need two keys to program a new one and the dealers gouge you on this one. Any other options?
Can you program another remote with the original. I don't have the keyless keypad codes either and understand that they are someplace on the vehicle but I can't find them. I looked in the jack area and behind the panel under the cup holders, no sign of the codes!
I know that alot of this info has been discussed before but with no search, I'm hoping someone won't mind helping a rookie. This is a fantastic site and I thank everyone in advance.

Welcome aboard and congrats on the new purchase.
I installed the SS grill. It was a real PITA. The grill must be cut-out using a sawzall, while leaving the outer ring. The instructions on their web site are good. Just the cutting out of the grill and sanding it down seemed to take me forever. I like to do thing first class. You may have already seen my pictures, if not, click on my name.
I recommend doing the grill over a weekend. The outer ring is painted black and should dry overnight.

Thom, congratulations on your 'new' vehicle. I also have a white 2000 Limited 4x4 that I bought 0ne year old with 18k miles. I am now approaching 60K and have never regretted my choice. We have horses, so I regularly use it to haul bedding and grain and occaisionaly the horse trailer.
As for the remote and the keypad.... I'm afraid that you are going to have to go to a Ford dealer and let them rob you of some of your cash. New keys or remotes can only be added if you have two of them. And despite claims that the keypad code is on the vehicle, I've never heard of anyone really finding it. The dealer will hook up the computer to read them and then charge you about $35.
Hope you enjoy your X.

congrads on your "x" as for the code it is easy to find.
remove the plastic panel that houses the ash tray, cig lighter, pedal adjustment switch. look way in the back, you should see a black box with three plugs coming out. that is the vehicle security module. on top of that is a white sticker that has your 5 digit code for the keypad. trust me it is there!
as for your request for a video screen. i have the ford factory flipdown 6.5" monitor with dvd player and it uses the standard ford factory protocal. which means if you have the indash 6 disc, or a ford radio with the aux plug in the back ( square plug with about 4 rows of 10 pins) you can inteface it into it. however i can't be positve! plus the screen and dvd player are in a tan enclosure, so if you have a gray roof...
now you can add anything up front for a radio from the aftermarket. i am partial to alpines, especially the iva-d900 (www.alpine-usa.com) , it is pricey but very high end in quality. now as for interfacing your steering wheels and the rear radio controls from the factory to an aftermarket, that is easy, it is called a swi-x adapter from pac (www.go2pac.com)
any questions on the console i am departing with call me at 440-878-1622
