We just took delivery of our "new" 2000 Excursion XLT yesterday; our first American vehicle. V10 XLT. Black with grey interior. It's quite a change from the VW van we traded in for it! We live on at the base of the Rocky Mountains, so the power in the hills will be welcome. I now have twice the cylinders, (5 in the VW), three times the hp (109 in the VW), one more seat, cd player, cupholders (Something Germans don't believe in) and less garage space. I love it.

My other "trucks" have all been (and still are) Land Rovers.

We picked up the X (the kids call it "Big Mama" yesterday afternoon. I spent most of the day playing with the gadgets, waxing her etc.

I've spent a few hours today lurking around the forum and found the answers to a couple of questions I have on the truck. I'm experiencing the same clunk under the driver's foot and suspect the front shock mount. This may also explain the surging we get at different speeds when applying the brakes. The steering wheel doesn't shake, but the truck does vibrate on light braking, so this could be it. I'm at work until 7 a.m., tomorrow, (firefighter) and my wife took the kids and the X to the mountains for the day. She called from Estes Park and said the truck was a dream in the mountains. It's the first vehicle we've owned that you can actually pass people in. She said she had to rein it in quite a bit, even up the hills! I'm hoping to tear into it tomorrow as I have the day off.

I look forward to X ownership and am glad to have found this forum.

Thanks, I plan on getting some pics tomorrow. I just finished polishing her.

Some things I've noted:

The build quality seems great. The panel gap tolerance and fit and finish is on par with late model German cars we've had. My wife absolutely loves how simple and intuitive the HVAC controls are. No need to read the owner's manual to figure out how to run things. The doors close with a nice thud, nothing rattles or squeaks and it idles SO smooth.

I need to get a good leather steering wheel cover and am thinking of putting a different grille on it, just to make it a little more "unique." (Remember, I drive a right-hand-drive 1972 Land Rover with the spare tire on the hood, so I'm not used to seeing vehicles that are like mine on the road!)

Part of the deal is the dealership has to fix the power door locks, which don't work. They all try to move up and down when the switch is hit, but don't quite make it. We haven't had power locks for years, so it hasn't botherd us yet. I need to get the door code from the dealer as well.

Welcome Todd and congrats on the new Yacht!!! You will love all the acres of space you have in it. If any thing comes up on the "X" just ask us, we have been around the block a couple of times with these trucks....First upgrade if not already done get a nice set of shocks for "Big mama" Factory shocks are horrible...maybe not to you YET, but when you do change them you will notice a much nicer ride.

OK, got a chance to snap a quick pic of the X next to Effie, my pet Land Rover. How do I upload the pic onto this thread?

I've come to the conclusion that my rotors are warped. The local tire shop said they would turn if possible. Where's the best place to get rotors for the X and what are the best choice? They're not horrid, but I want to get them done in the near future. New tires are on the horizon as well. I'm going to upgrade to 285s.

Todd, if you do a search on here for ART rotors, they make a kit for the excursion and give members of this forum a group purchase price. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but they still seem to be the brakes of choice for people on here...Mine are coming soon!!!

Todd, welcome to the site!

I let my local Ford dealer turn my rotors. They have a "Quick Lane" thing for routine stuff. I think it was $45 or so. Pretty reasonable. I let them do all of my maintenance. I'm fortunate to have a good dealer.

Good luck with the X. We also own a 2001 VW New Beetle 1.8T along with the X. Both have been good vehicles thus far. The Bug is "quirky" but fun to drive. The X is more predictable and definately more kid friendly. Plus, our CAFE is about 20 mpg, so we're doing pretty good!!

Good to hear there are good dealers out there. Our VW EuroVan was the only vehicle I've ever taken to the dealership for every repair because I found them to be quite hoest and most of the time they'd match any local garage's quote.

I'll be taking the X by the Ford dealership in Fort Collins, CO, tomorrow to see if they can give me the door code.
