Heya Gang,
Just wanted to take a moment to share my PSD experiences. I traded my 99F350 ExtCab with 100k+ miles for my current PSD Excursion that now has 135k+ miles. At 112K I installed a Dynomax full 4 inch exhaust system including 4 inch downpipe. I found the install to be a tad harder then just bolt on as the hangers were designed for a truck withouth a 44 gal gas tank in the rear. I would go with a 3 1/2 inch downpipe if I were to do it over again. The 4 inch causes excess turbo chatter between load changes/shifts and may have killed my bottom end a tad. I then installed a K&N FPIK style kit, it's easy to install and clean, but not happy with the lack of cooler air and would feel better with a foam style filter for long life comfort. I then purchased a Western Diesel 4 bank switchable chip along with a Turbo Brake control module. I had the worst time ever getting the chip to work with my X and had to finally ship my computer to them the 3rd go around. I finally got the chip working and not having any expectations felt I was getting better performance, and I was to a degree. I also had a Diablo powershift valve installed along with a Maghytech tranny pan installed. Within a matter of 10k the tranny and torque converter started heading south. I began to research replacement trannies and came upon this message board where I was lucky enough to make contact with Mike Englewood aka "Gearman" With his recommendations in mind and experiences of others I went with a Suncoast transmission and torque converter. Upon the tranny and TC replacement it became evident the Western Diesel chip was causing some interference and issues with X. Tranny codes were popping up and shifting was irregular. I then removed the Western Diesel chip and walla,..........no more tranny problems. I called Western Diesel to notify them that the chip was causing problems and after they reviewed the history and amount of reguessing they did to initially get my chip working with an X, they gave up before they even started to solve the problem. Through this process it became very evident that Western Diesel does not do in house tuning, but simply resells somebody elses programs. This really disappointed me and prompted me to go out on the hunt of an honest to gawd chip manufacturer who knew how to make the program for a tuned application. Well that led me back to Mike "Gearman" who insisted I talk with TTS Performance and try out the product. After actually getting to speak to the guy who writes the program to tune the chip, I was convinced I should give it a shot as Mike had nothing but good to say. Well, I cant praise Mike enough for his fortitude and integrity. He follows through with any project he is involved in regardless if its thousands of miles away. I installed the TTS Performance chip last weekend and towed with it all this weekend, the power in tow mode is astounding and reliable while the HOT setting is fun without killing my motor and peripherals. It is without doubt the most reliable straight up performance chip I have had experience with to date. I have had a buddy run a programmer style chip only to blow up his tranny at less then 50k and have driven some Diablo and superchipped trucks that were just OK. The TTS Perf chip was money well spent and if any of you wish to try out the Western Diesel, give me a ring as its sitting on the shelf. Give Mike "Gearman" a call and you wont be dissatisfied in the least. He'll make sure youre happy and well taken care of. THANKS MIKE!!!!
