Hey guys!!!! I bought my "new" 2001 X, V10 Ltd, last Wednesday, and I love it. Question though. I'm having a problem with the door ajar light and the interior lights remaining on after the doors are closed. I read the previous posts on the site, and tried the WD40 trick, but this didn't resolve the situation. I called the dealer I bought my X from, but no response yet. Any ideas from you guys?
Thanks,

Probably the sensor/switch...
If under warranty - let them do it...
Which I would since it's new to u !
if not, there are discussions on how to fix this on this or the other diesel site...

All I can suggest is to get on good terms with your Ford dealer's parts-guy, then buy replacement door-ajar switches and replace them yourself. The switches are about $7 each, and take about an hour each to replace ... and the four doors can be a real pain to do. The rear liftgate is a breeze. You may want to determine which one is bad & replace just that one. The dealers around here (southeast VA) want $90 to $125 in labor to replace EACH switch ... PLUS $20 per switch (like I said, get to KNOW your parts-guy well).
Buy one of those service-manual-on-CD offered on eBay ... or better yet (though more costly), look up Helm Publishing, Inc. online and order the Ford factory service manuals ... well worth the $230 or so for the 2-volume manual, plus electrical schematics book. The hardcopy manuals, while being huge in size, are much easier to navigate than the CD. The CD is useful for putting some things in an electronic format for e-mailing.
Good luck!
PS - The WD40 fix is only temporary ... the switches will eventually fail. |

Thanks guys!!!! I got in my X this morning, shut the driver's door, and voila!!! the door ajar light wasn't on. I hit some rough railroad tracks and quess what, on it comes. I immediately pulled over thinking that the problem was a physical one with the doors. I walked around my X and all doors were closed and latched securely. I guess it's switch time. I've got a 7am appointment with my dealer tomorrow. My concern now--where is the best place to purchase parts for the X? I've been told that when you pull an X into the service department at any of the Ford dealerships here in Chattanooga, they assume you're made of money. Since I don't want to finance anyone's vacation, yacht, etc., I'd like to perform as much of the maintenance as possible. Hopefully there won't be that much. So, being new to Ford trucks, I'm turning to you guys for guidance on where to purchase parts. Thanks for your help already!!! I just need a little more.
Thanks,

Thank god Ford changed the design of attaching the interior door skin to the door frame. No more cheap clips that break upon removal. The removal is a breeze and made tinting the windows much easier. |
