What should I expect to pay for a leftover X? Maybe my expectations are a bit high but the dealers don't seem to want to cut me a deal. The sticker on this vehicle is around 43K MSRP. The dealer said that he would sell it for $34K+tax. He gets to keep the rebates. What do you think? Sounds kinda high for a 2003. I hear about people getting deals on vehicles but I don't see it around here. The one dealer acted like he was doing me a favor because the 2003 was $1500 cheaper than the same 2004. Am I nuts?

No, HE's the one that's nuts....
of course, he knows whether or not he can sell it at that price...
Sometimes when it's the only one left, they hold the line on the price because
once it's gone, it's gone !
I'd look around and don't work down from MSRP, find the features list and get online and find the COST... then figure in the rebates, the 3% holdback... etc...
THEY say they NEVER go into their holdback... but they actually do...
Remember, it's a negotiation... use studied disinterest to negotiate...
As long as they think you're 'hooked' the price won't come down...
but there are other dealers...
good luck trying to get this nice beast !

While "new" is real nice, it's used the moment you drive it off the lot ... and boy does the value drop like a rock. I've been fortunate to come across some good used vehicles. The last one I bought new was in 1986 (Toyota pickup).
As far as my X goes, I bought it for $25K in January this year ... 2001 4x4 Limited with 53K miles on the clock in excellent condition. Not the best of deals, but far from the worst. Have you seen what some people are asking for the Chevy 'Burban? Unbelievable.
If it's one thing I hate to do, it's to attempt bargaining with cars salemen/women. |
