I'm new to this group. My father has a dealer lic. here in Alabama and we've searched for over a yr for a PSD so I could upgrade the 96 sub. We finally found one, not in the best shape but a good deal. This was the 2nd PSD at the auction in 1 year and it was a repo. It will do until we find a limited psd at the right price. Here's the problem. The powerlocks will only unlock the rear door. You can hear the locks trying to work, but no dice. A ford "auto/body man" is unfamilar with this problem. We suspect a relay. Has anyone else had this problem? The keyless remote won't work either, we don't know if it's a dead battery in the remote or the lock problem, but the panic won't respond either. The keyless entry will unlock the rear door only. Over all I think I'll be happy with my purchase, I'd better since I'm considering selling the vette so I won't owe $ on the X.

Welcome to the good side !

Have heard the quick fix is to spray wd-40 on the lock innards...
try that first and then the switch/selonid is about $7 per door but difficult to get to...
do a search on here and the other diesel sites - there was just a LONG discussion about it last week....
apparently a common issue after many cycles !

Thanks for the suggestion. The hubby has brain cancer, so these days I pretty much do little things to the cars and trucks. Yesterday it was a vaccum line on the vette, guess today will be door locks. I'll also search some other sites. Thanks again.

susan,

what year is the excursion in discusion, and what motor? it can be numerous problems. on 02 and above the signal from the remote goes to the security module which uses micro electronics inside it to activate the lock and unlock. infact the relays are built into it, that actuate the door locks. by chance do you get an open door indicator on the instrument cluster when everything is closed? does the doors lock and unlock from the inside switches? i'll check back here monday or later tonight. i hope it is just wd40, but unfortunately i doubt it.

I have the same problem except it is my rear doors it was the rear passenger side and now the driver side rear is doing it too. I had a problem with the windows and it was a control module. Does this control the locks too? Also my rear vents will not work but then they will? Any body got any ideas for me.

Sorry it took me so long to reply back, the hubby has brain cancer and he had a seizure at work again(he'd only been back at work 5 weeks) and we spent several days at the hospital. The wd-40 did nothing. The x is a 2000 7.3 psd, 4X2. Someone at the ford dealership said it could be some switch that's $28.00 per door. The power locks will not lock or unlock anything except for the rear door(trunk). You can hear it making a noise like it is trying to unlock. The keyless entry will only open the trunk and the keyless remote doesn't do anything. Had the oil changed and now the SES light is on. The truck only has 71,000 miles on it. My 96 suburban that I'm selling has 142,000 miles and never any problems like these. The x was repoed by ford motor credit and I got it below rough book wholesale price, so even it I have to pay out the a** at the dealer to get it fixed I still will be in the truck at a reasonable price.
Thanks for all of the input.

update! I had the locks fixed on Monday at the local dealer. The ses light was on because the glow plug sensor was dying. They replaced that too. I received the parts at cost, but the labor was regular price. The entire thing was $531.00, but now I can lock and unlock the doors. Watching them reprogram the remotes was wild. Thanks for all of the input.

susan,

exactly what was the problem with the door locks? i was wondering because you mentioned the reprograming of the keys, which takes about 3 seconds per key. was it something with the security module?

they replaced the "door lock actuators" on all 4 doors. Now the "trunk" door is acting crazy. I think there starting to be a problem with it. It use to be the only door that unlocked/locked at all and today it hasn't responded at every attempt to the power button or the remote. I think the reason they reprogramed the remotes was we were not even sure the remote was even programed to the tuck in the first place and I had an extra remote (my dad, seriously, trades trucks when it's time to change the oil for the first time and he must keep a remote with each new purchase cause he had a gazillion remotes). I hate the thought of paying another 100 bucks to have that door fixed too. I don't have an owners manual and I wonder if I'm doing something with the key that's contributing to the problem. Years ago I had a volvo (and more recently the 96 suburban) that you could manually unlock the trunk/rear door with the key and the automatic/power door locks wouldn't lock the door until you manually did the key a certain way again. My x may just be possessed!
Thanks for the input,
Susan

Im haveing the same problem with my 2000 X PSD Limited 4x4. I tryied the wd-40 worked I think for a little while. I guess I need to visit Sunny King to get the door actuators. I Love my X this is the first problem I have really had besides haveing to replace the batteries. Thoght it was the glow plug but just needed new batteries. Im thinking of getting a new one or newer.
