I am looking into replacing our "Dumbo" power, heated, w/turn signal mirrors, with the trailer towing type also power, heated, turn signal. The problem is that I can't get a straight answer from the dealers as far as compatability, and if they come with adapter harnesses or not. Any information would be greatly appreciated. A little note; these are the same dealers that advised me '02 & '03 clear headlights & signals wouldn't adapt to an '01 |

The dealers that I have delt with in the search for an '04 said that they are a direct swap. I don't know if it is true. I have come across a couple of trucks that do not have the tow mirrors and they said that they would just swich them for me. |

Mike...
look around - do a search....
I think you'll find that they are available for swapping from someone that wants what you have...
I've seen it before on our diesel sites....

If all you need is the power & heat functions, they're a direct swap. If you want the turn signal version, you will also get running lights in those mirrors. That means you will have to run one wire (hot when running lights are on) to each of the new T-T mirrors. And no, there is no wiring adapter. Basically, all you need is to include a disconnect in those extra wires fairly close to the factory connections. Most just "plug & play" ... but I have heard of a difference in some model year connections.
I have a pair I have yet to install. If the plugs don't match, I'm not worried. Might take a little time, but splicing in a different conncector is no big deal (I love heat-shrink tubing!).
If you don't want to burn the running lights, leave out the extra wire .... HOWEVER, in my state (VA) all installed lights must operate in order to pass our annual safety inspection.
I hope this helps.
And if you're looking to buy the mirrors and think your local dealers are giving you indirect answers, call Parts Manager Scott Hart at Buckeye Ford at 1-800-800-FORD. |

Thanks to all for the information. If anyone knows of someone who wants to switch for these things(even without the signals) I'd do it in a heartbeat.
Thanks again,
Mike |

Can sympathize ... I'll be selling my "dog ear" power/heated/turn-signal mirrors as soon as I install the T-T mirrors. Will most likely list them on eBay ... just haven't decided whether to list them as a pair, or as individual units for those looking to replace damaged pieces. |
