If you don't want to mess things up, leave the size of the speakers alone. I think they're 4x6, but as usual, I'm probably wrong trying to recall the exact numbers. Instead, order some higher-grade speakers of the same size from a place like Crutchfield. |

Better quality speakers will do wonders expecially with a beter amp and an added subwoofer...

The door speakers are easy to put in. 5x7 speakers are a direct drop in. look for a two way separates ( tweater on top of the cone) not plates. ( 4" cone 1" tweater) I run SPL comps and have found that lesser known companys to work better for less. I use MA Audio 5x7 speakers that work just as well off the factory deck as the do with 200 watts pushing them. Look for the on e-bay for the best deal. The third set of speakers are harder to get to and will require you to loosen the rear quarter panels. Again 5x7 direct drop in. If you have any question let me know and I will answer them the best I can. Car audio and video is my thing and my ex is full of it. good luck

If the listening level is too loud, please inform the driver, so he can promptly pull over, and let you out.

The Excursion doors, mid and rear panels call for 6x8's, althought the rear and mid's can handle some 5x7's depending on the depth. I went with 6x8's all the way round, as the ford stock speakers are like most stock speakers, they stink. If i were to do it again, I would have gone the component route upfront, and put tweeters in the window columns facing towards the driver and passenger. I have an indash Panasonic dvd/cd which has two seperate sound phases so i can listen to xm radio up front, and let the kids watch a movie in the back. Therefore, for my musical entertainment, the front door speakers are what i listen to most when i've got the family with me. If I had components upfront, it would sound all so much better. Love my XM Radio, high suggested. Just my FYI |

I replaced my doors with Infinity Reference 6x8's. Bout 89.00 bucks a set of two. The have adjustable tweeters, and sound frickin awesome. I run these off an alpine 9813 no amp on the door speakers.
Highly recommend the infinity reference, even over the infinity kappa. |
