I do plan to file a complaint with the local Ford Dealership and the regional office. I mean, really, someone like my mom would not have questioned the dealer and probably spent $3,600 on a blown fuse. The guy I bought the X from did go in and complain to the general manager, and they refunded all but $30 of the bill he incurred for the to look at the codes (over $200). They were doing some serious backpedaling.
Anyhow, the X is back in our garage, and runs great. I told the dealer I purchased it from to just give me the door lock actuators and I'd do it myself. He agreed. Now, I just need to know if anyone has any tips on how to do this. I can get the door panel off quite easily, but you have to be a left-handed midget contortionist to get to the actuator. And I thought some of the bits on my ex-1971 Mini were tough to get at!
Oh yeah, any ideas we had about buying a Suburban were quickly answered in the 24 hours we had the loaner. My wife, who never had any type of Ford vs. Chevy vs. Dodge etc. kind of comments was astonished at how much better the X was than the Suburban. Easier to operate, more power, more room, not such cheesy plastic, no rattles and squeeks, better ride etc. And the Suburban was a top-of-the-line model! (She did like the heated seats this morning, though.)
Long live the X. |

LOL... well, I gotta say, if it weren't for the 'Burban we USED to own, we probably would never have considered purchasing the X, I liked the roominess of the 'Burban but it felt cheaply put-together and way under-powered. It was an '89 model - 6 years pre-Vortec but I'm not even sure the Vortec would provide enough power to push 6000#'s of American steel. I LOVE the our Victor-10!!

I've learned to never trust one opinion from one dealer. It's worth the money to get a second opinion, even if it requires towing a vehicle to a different dealer. A friend of mine fixed a Mountaineer that was a rollover, when they got it running it was making alot of noise when rolling. Ford dealer told them it needed new tranny. The had it towed to a tranny shop by their house to get a second opinion. Ends up being heat sheild bent and making contact with drive shaft. The dealer was Borgman Ford, Grand Rapids MI.

I hope you do file a formal complaint to some oganization whether its the local chamber of commerce, local tv station or the attorney general. That kind of incompetance really gets me going. I recently had a Ford dealership try to tell me my newly installed performance transmission from Suncoast was in need of a total rebuild and the only thing that was asked of the dealership was to make sure a current revision software was on the ECU. They took it upon themselves to drive the thing around town and proceed to try and charge me an additional 1 1/2 hours for thier supreme diagnosis,.........what a joke.
So please take some kind of action, thats just ridiculous.

During my last problem with a Ford Warranty item, I learned something interesting,
See http://fordexcursions.superford.org/forums/posts.php?threadid=756
1. (at my dealer) the Service writers don't make any (or very little) commission in warranty work.
They will always try to get it from you FIRST. Even if they have to sell you something you don't need.
There are too few people that would question $600 repair.
Like I said in the above link:
"I still belive that it's my money, If you are going to ask me to hand you a fist full of it, you better have a gun OR a really good reason for me to part with it. The service writer didn't have either.
I will try a diffrent dealer on my next repair. Thats smaller and a little more personal"
