I'm going to be mounting some aftermarket fogs on my brush guard soon. In addition I'm also going to be installing a TC lockup switch as well. My problem is I don't know where I want to mount these switches. I'd like to keep a neat appearance and not make it look like these things were added haphazardly.
What have you done with your accessory switches? Have any pics? Any suggestions at all would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I'm not in my X right now (obviously) and am having a hard time picturing it, but it seems like you would be able to mount them along the sides of the roof console? Like on the outter edge of the glasses holder and garage-door-opener compartment?

I mounted some switches in my SD like This
Kevin's idea is an interesting one. My SD doesn't have the overhead console.

I like the little rocker switches that light up, green for fogs and red for driving lights just like Randy's. Drill holes and pop them in just below your factory lighting control on the dash. Keeps everything together there. I also like to position mine a bit to starboard from directly underneath the main light switch so that I CAN'T see them when there on, cause I hate little lights shining in my eyes. The steering wheel blocks them there. I also wire my foglamps into my parking lights and leave them on 90% of the time.
I usually put toggle switches for big stuff like Hella 1000 and 2000 sets on the other side so I don't turn them on by mistake. You really don't use them on the road so the toggle stands out when you need it. I leave driving lamps on their own switch so I don't inadvertantly piss off a local law enforcement official with a bunch of high beams shining in his face.

A buddy with a SD F350 removed that little panel with the trash-bag hook, and fabricated a nice-looking panel for an array of switches and indicator lights. Myself? Since I also don't use that hook, I would mount them there, too. If you want them out of sight .... and if you have captain's chairs up front ... consider somewhere along the left or front sides of the center console. If you don't use the little cubby-hole in the front of the console, you could fab a switch panel to go there. But being out of sight has its drawbacks, too. Like you'll have to memorize switch sequence and feel your way across them. Heck ... you've got 2 cup-holders that slide out of the dashboard. Why not use the cup-holder spaces at the front of the console (again, assuming you have the floor console).
Just my 2-cents. Put 'em where YOU like them best. |

I`ve got mine where Spartan described, there behine the wheel so they are not annoying (5). I like the idea mounting them in the over head . Pilot industries has a 4 blister button switch. It`s 1-1/4" X 1-1/4" and could be mounted anywhere, and no hole to drill. I know Auto Zone has them. I can`t remember the price but it was cheap.

Sounds like most of us are in agreement...
I also put the led for my PIAA's just to the left of the steering column so it doesn't shine in my eyes...
I can only see it if I look around the steering wheel rib or as a dim reflection on the upper part of my windshield... easy to see the difference of red or green...

for the fog lights, i'd use the factory switch, so when you pull it it is on, you can grap the wire at the switch or grab it at the factory fog lights. and wire that up to your relay as the on trigger. the factory fogs are a joke, so either leave them hooked up, unhook them, or wire them to the headlights so when the headlights are on the fogs are on( the factory ones) . this will eliminate the need to add a switch to turn the aftermarket fog lights on since you would be using the factory one. can't get any neeater than that! as for your other switch, i have no clue as to how big it is and how often you will be using it. i have ran wires in the driver door and added a switch to the plastic panel fwd of the map pocket where the memory seat switch is at.

well if you want we can design a system for you so that you can be in your x and e-mailing, surfing, faxing, or playing around with a pc in general.
the technology is out their, however it is a little expensive for wireless surfing, but it is a matter of months before it will be really high speed. now it is basically a dial up type of speed.

Wow...lots of suggestions. I guess a few things need to be addressed and clarified first.
It is a 2000 Limited 4x4. So, that said, I have the full overhead console, full lower console with captains chairs and I also have an ashtray instead of the bag hook thingy. Also, I do not have factory fog lights.
As for the switches, I don't have any picked out yet. That's kinda what I wanted to know as well. I want a near factory look and don't know if there's a switch out there that gives a factory look. For the fogs it would need to be able to handle a few amps. The other switch would be less than an amp. Some of these locations sound great and I'll look into it.\
Now, any ideas about switches?
