CAN ANY ONE HELP I HAVE A 2001 FORD EXCURSION 2 WHEEL DRIVE(USED WITH 25 K) AFTER WE PURCHASED THE EXCURSION AT OUR DEALERSHIP IN FLORIDA WE BROUGHT THE TRUCK BACK BECAUSE IT WAS ALL OVER THE ROAD AND NOTICED THAT THE REAR END WAS SAGGING A LITTLE.
WE WERE TOLD BT THE TECH REP AFTER HAVING THE TRUCK FOR THE DAY THAT ALL SYSTEMS WERE NORMAL AND THAT THE TIRE PRESSURES NEEDED TO BE LOWERED IN WHICH TEY DID.
THE FOLLOWING DAY WE LEFT FOR OUR SUMMER HOME IN THE NORTHEAST ON I-95 THIS WAS THE RIDE FROM YOU KNOW WHERE. THAN I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE FORD DEALER IN THE TOWN WHERE I LIVE IN THE SUMMER HERE IS WHAT THEY DID- REPLACED ALL SHOCKS-REAR LEAF SPRINGS THIS BROUGHT THE REAR END UP TO THE NORMAL HEIGHT, HOWEVER STILL THE TRUCK WAS NOT RIGHT EVERY LITTLE BUMP WAS FELT AND YOU CAN IMAGINE A POT HOLE OR A LARGE BUMP IN THE ROAD ALSO THERE WAS A VIBRATION IN WHICH YOU COULD NOTICE AT SPEEDS FROM 30-70 MPH WITH A BOTTLE OF WATER IN THE HOLDER OR YOU COULD SEE AND FEEL THE SEATS HAVING THE VIBRATION. THE NEXT ITEMS TO BE DONE UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS AND
WHEEL BEARINGS AND ALIGMENT HOWEVER STILL NO CHANGES. NOW AFTER HAVING USELESS LONG DISTANT PHONE CALL WITH THE DEALER IN FLORIDA AND THE SOUTHEAST AND NORTH EAST REPS
I AM TOLD TO TAKE THIS TRUCK TO A BIGGER DEALER IN WHICH I HAVE THIS WEEK AFTER THERE
RECOMMENDATION OF NEW TIRES (COOPER HTS) THE RIDE IS THE SAME AND AFTER THERE ADDITIONAL WORK I STILL HAVE THE SMALL VIBRATION AND HARD RIDE ON THE ROAD

Hey, sorry about your troubles.
First, what motor do you have in there?
At 25k, they replaced the rear leafs? WOW,
Did someone use this as a stunt vehicle? Or try towing a dump truck or something?
Does it have a hitch with signs of excessive use?
Torque converter or drive shaft maybe. Good luck,
give us some more info, drive down the street while its vibrating and drop in in neutral and coast,
Let us know if the vibration is while only in gear.

I've got the same problem with my '00 4x2 Ex...
I haven't changed everything that Ronald has, but I am running Edlebrock shocks, Hellwig rear sway bar, and rear Air Bags.
I'm really wondering if this problem is addressed by LANDYOT's Radius Bars...
Just a thought,

So, is the problem a vibration? or stiff ride?
If I inflate my air bags without towing something, I get a bouncy ride but not that bad.
I leave my bags empty unless I am towing something. So, to clear this up- its the vibration in question right?

Are you guys sure you dont have a torque converter shudder? Quick test is: bring truck up to the vibration point and hold speed (make sure you are hold it at the vibration) with left foot (do not move right foot of gas pedal) lightly touch brake pedal, this releases converter clutch. if vibe goes away, then you have bad converter. hope this helps

I FORGOT TO ANSWER YOUR OTHER QUESTIONS I AM JUST HAPPY TO HEAR FROM SOMBODY THAT GIVES ME SOME POSITIVE ANSWERS AND NOT ALOT OF STORYS.
I HAVE THE TRITON 5.4 LITER 8 CLY ENGINE. THE FIRST OWNER HAD DONE SOME TOWING ALRIGHT
MAYBE IT WAS A DUMP TRUCK, SEE I BELIEVE THE TRUCK SHOULD HAVE NEVER GONE BACK ON THE LOT FOR SALE, I HAD TO GO NORTH FOR THE SUMMER TO FIND OUT THIS TRUCK HAS SOME REAL
PROBLMES. THE TOW HITCH HAS VERY LITTLE USE. I WILL LET YOU KNOW FURTHER ON THE VIBRATIONS.
THANK YOU

gotta try that^^^
If your vibration is still present while your in nuetral I would guess driveshaft maybe. Its still turning if the truck is still rollin.
Ford is going to have to put that sucker up on a lift and find the vibration.
Your rig may be riding rough until the new leafs break in a bit. this truck is not lifted or anything right? Its just stock? Id wait a bit until they settle in, it should be a smooth ride in back.
If someone drives behind you can they see a wheel wigglin like someone curbed a rim? Could be a bent rim, driveshaft that is out of balance..
good luck, keep us posted. |
