I'm the proud owner of a 2000 X, 7.3L PS, 4x4. We've only had it about 6 months now and love it, but...
For the second time in 6 months the rotors seem to be warped. I had them turned back in May and that seemed to fix the problem (brake pads only a couple months old at the time). The vibration has started again and it's again pulling to the left, all only while braking. What can be causing the rotors to warp so often? Is this a common problem?
Does anyone have a long-term solution to this problem? Such as a good brand of vented discs that cool quickly and don't warp often? Thanks,

PS-I just read a couple of posts further down the thread...looks like lug torque is an issue and getting some better quality after market rotors helps. Any suggestions on brand, testimonials?

Don, YES warped rotors are a common problem with the excursions. It has been discussed on here many times. Most people are ghanging to a better quality rotor and double and triple checking lug nut torque (should be 155-165 lbs) DON'T let a dealership gun them on and tell you they checked the torque (my mistake)...
As for brand, a lot of people have had good luck with ART (Applied Rotor Technology)...I will be installing my set on Saturday!!! Dean at ART sells the entire kit (4 rotors and brake pads) all cryogenically frozen and slotted for $595 + shipping...I think that was the price. I put a set of ART rotors on mine as well. I have about 10,000 miles on them and they're still going. As far as stopping power goes though, I wished that there was something with more bite. |

Will get the cryo option, too. The USPS does, and have increased brake rotor, drum. and PAD (yes, they cryo-treat the pads & shoes, too) life three or four fold. |

Thanks for the advice, I think I'll go with some ART rotors...probably the cross-drilled slotted ones.

I went through 3 set of rotors on my 00 within 70K. I was turned onto the ART rotors by the list and have no issues so far with them.
My personal opinion is that cross drilled units for heavy non race truck applications lead to premature problems. I find the slotted rotors do provide for better heat disapation though. Either way teh ART rotors have provided performance as advertised so far with with my 00.

finally got to install my ART set today. Total installation from parking the Ex, to driving off with new brakes was 3 hours. This included BS time, and everything else. Job was TOTALLY easy, and so far I seem to be able to tell a difference. At least there is no Pedal Pulsating, and it wants to stop. |
