Do the 315's rub or not with 4.5" Edge kit? You will see little rub spots on the bottom trim of the bumper. And feel it if you turn hard and compress the suspension. I still say they won't fit without rubbing because I have the same installation and they rub.
FYI - I spoke to Ryan at SDHQ about this the other day. He says if you look closely at 4.5" Edge Excursions you can see where they made small relief cuts at the bottom of the bumper to cure this.
I'm getting 295's to correct this problem on my truck.

If you don`t want to trim the bumper, why not go with 305`s instead of the 295`s. I personally would trim and stay with the bigger meats.

Don't know. I could go with 33.5 12.5 16.5'2 with the wheels I'm running and have no problems, or 295 75 16's on the stock rims out of the garage without issue. If i go to 315's or 305's I gotta get 8" wheels. It's and economics thing. I can sell my 16.5's and what's left of the tread on the BFG KO's to pay for new 295 tires. Decisions - decisions!
I really wish that people would fess up and share what rubs and what doesn't instead of ignoring the issue and just chewing up bumper trim. I saw some shots the other day froma guy running too big mudders on an F250 and the front bumpers looked like the Texas Chainsaw massacre.

I'm running 315 75 R16's with no rubbing on the bumper at all. Maybe the offset of the rims are a factor.

Sorry for not replying sooner, I've been busy.
My tires did rub on the plastic trim under the bumper. I cut the corner off right from the start. They would still rub, so I cut some more. Actually, it doesn't look too bad at all except I still need to finish off the cut. A guy at The Diesel Stop suggested using a propane torch to smooth the edges. I just haven't gotten to it yet.
I will post a picture if I remember how to do it. This was before I made any cuts on the plastic.
Lifted Excursion
It's obvious in this picture the tire would rub without cutting. The first chance I get, I will post an updated pic of the trim. The hard bumper does not rub at all. Right now, nothing rubs and I think the truck looks fantastic. My wife tells me all the time how people check her out and she gets compliments all the time when someone sees her get in or out of her truck.
The wife is quite pleased. I done real good on this one.
She wanted reverse sensors on her front bumper before the lift, and now she is bugging me about it more than ever. I have been showing her how to notice how far a car is from the line she is about to park in front of, and then judge the line out her side window. So far this is holding off the "Reverse Sensor on Front Bumper Mod".
The truck drives real smooth, better than before. I think the original tires had flat spots on them. The truck was built 11 months before we purchased it. When we first got it, it shimmied the steering wheel pretty bad. By the time I put the lift kit, tires and wheels on, it had 5090 miles on it and the shimmying was all but gone. I have had it up to 90mph and it drives straight and true with no shakes at all.
While you guys are at my WebShots album, check out the other photos I have there.

I went out tonight and took a picture of the front corner to show how the plastic valance looks. It is still rough, I plan to smooth out the cut...sometime.
Cut Plastic Trim
Take notice of those good looking wheels and tires.

Randy - If you're wanting to smooth those plastic edges, why not just use a coarse file, or a cheese-grater type file? Putting heat to it would worry the devil out of me. // Ken E. |

Randy - Thanks for sharing with us.
Regarding the plastic valance - I had to cut that angle off when I put on a 5.5 inch Fabtech spring lift. You can smooth that out with coarse - then fine sandpaper. Use a coarse file as Landyot mentions to get a straight line if you need too. Heat is too hard to apply evenly.
I have a beautifully cut valance from my 2000 Excursion sitting in the garage. When you install the Edge kit on older Excursions the valance goes away completely. It attaches to the blocker beam on older models and when that comes out to put the Edge kit in, the plastic valance comes off permanently whereas yours attaches to the bumper if I am not mistaken. Mine is gone. Something else they don't tell you ahead of time.
Moving on. When I asked about the rubbing I didn't mean rubbing on the valance. I mean rubbing on the bumper, directly on the plastic covering the metal bumper itself. As I mentioned in another post I've seen several trucks with this area literally ripped to shreds from running tires that are too big.
I wish we could put the trucks side by side to measure the bumpers, clearances, etc. to check differences. I am beginning to think that the rubbing on my truck is caused by the 9.75" wide wheels I'm running as opposed to 8 inch wheels that most others are using.
Let us know if you see any abrasion on the actual bumper trim itself. FYI - Superduty HQ told me that you need to cut an angle in the actual metal bumper for Excursions when I called to inquire about this problem.
Nice truck - congratulations. And that took four, maybe five hours? ;)
