Hi all,
My transmission sometimes slips at 2000 rpm in all gears with or without the OD turned on.
I have the V10 and 53K miles on it. Its done it for about the last 5K miles.
I changed the fluid but it made no differance.
If I had it scaned would it show any error codes?
The check engine light is not on.
Where is the best place to get a scan and about what does it cost?
Any ideas?
Thanks,
SRO2000X

How do you know it's the tranny slipping?
What does it do?

typically, you'll feel the slip and see the RPMs jump up briefly b4 the TC locks (right term there?) again.

It's rare that you have been slipping for 5k miles and not done other damage to trans. I would have a reputable trans shop raod test the truck and scan it. cost should be about 75.00.

Thanks Kevin. I know what a slipping tranny feels like but was wondering why HE thought it was slipping. I like to make sure that that is the problem prior to attempting to provide the solution.
Why would a tranmission only slip at 2000RPM in ALL gears?

Hi all,
Thanks for the help.
The speed at which it occurs is constant but it doesn't always do it ever time I drive it.
It WILL do it ever day, just not every drive.
What's odd is that I can hear and feel it slip but the rpm stays very constant. Almost as if the rpm sensor is on the transmission.
It happens in the drive, 1st and 2nd gear settings with or without the OD on.
When I had the transmission fluid changed it had already been doing it for a while.
Also, the shop that did the change (Goodyear Gemini) said I did not need to change the filter at the first fluid change. I have been skeptical about this but was told the same thing by many Ford shops too.
Any ideas?
Also, will the scan show errors if the check engine light is not on?
Thanks,
SRO2000X

Yes, if it is a professional scanner and the idiot behind the scanner knows how to use it. It does not count if you just scan for codes if you find no codes. There are things called FMEM (Failure Management Effect Mode). This means the computer saw something it didnt like, and decided to take some control over the matter. The computer can do this without a code, i see it all the time.
