Guess what guys- on my return trip to West Palm, as I got off of I-95 by Rachels Steakhouse and Adult Entertainment (how about a Powerstroke Rally meeting here??) the accelerator began to do nothing wkile the PSD contentedly idled!!!! So at 89, 983 miles on my 2002 X Limited 7.3 PSD 4x4 the accelerator pedal is electronically DEAD!!!!!
Here's my earlier post re a sudden bad surging problem:

2002 7.3 4wd Exc 76,833 miles 16 months old:
I've heard of this problem but my Exc has NEVER had ANY surge!! It sat for a week and when I drove it , SURGE CITY at just off idle. It feels like the turbo is spooling in and out and goes away above 1200 rpm.. What the f**k is going on here ??
I drained and changed the fuel filter- still there!!!
HELP guys- is this an electronic control problem, bad turbo control or pump????
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GUESS WHAT?? My monthly trip to Long Island NY (now 78,350) and the surge is GONE !!
I have a VERY funny feeling (especially after reading the post from Finland) that the potentiometer for the gas pedal was wet or oxidized!! The Florida humidity was horrible and the Ex hasn't sat that long since I got it. Am I right guys- the 7.3 is an electronic pedal??

Well, guess what- it IS an electronic pedal and costs about $125.00 at the dealer. Actually, this time I'm not too pi**ed off because the price ( I can't believe I'm gonna say this) is actually reasonable BUT, should this have failed so soon??
Actually, the pedal death got me thinking... Do any of you ever experience what I've heard called the "Power Stroke Surge" ??? When I first bought my X I heard about this phenomena but my truck NEVER did it and I've never seen it mentioned in this forum. How much you wanna bet that MANY of these pedal "pots" or switches are bad and are the real culprit?????????????

COMMENTS ???????

SPARK PLUGS??? We don't need no steenkin" sparkplugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ciao, Godfather

POSTUS SCRIPTUM: If any of you Florida guys still under warranty wanna swap pedal assemblies
and you get a new one from Ford for free, letrs talk (remember- NOBODY from Ford reads this forum anyway)!

EDIT 11/19
BTW, the gas pedal intermittency (how's that word??) ALSO made the check engine light come on !!

I see lots of posts re "that pesky SES light". How much ya' wanna' bet the bad gas pedals are a big cause of this??????????

Ford has issued a customer satisfaction program (03B03) for 2002 and 2003 SuperDuty And Excursion vehicles equipped with 7.3L diesel engines. The bulletin calls for the replacement of the adjustable accelerator pedal sensor.

The service will be in effect until 31 March 2004, regardless of vehicle mileage.

The vehicles involved were made at the Kentucky Truck Plant from JOB1 through 17 October 2002 and at the Cuautitlan Assembly Plant from JOB1 through 21 December 2001.

Should the sensor fail, the driver may experience an intermittent loss of acceleration, or the ability to increase engine RPM past idle when depressing the accelerator pedal.
