I bought my kids a portable DVD. Got two for the price of the overhead one. They seem to like them. Also, they can each watch their own shows or listen to music.

That's what I'm planning to do, too. I just want the dvd player for trips, not around town. I don't want to have them whining about watching a movie if we're just going to the Piggly Wiggly!

I'm looking at the Initial 7" model. Walmart.com has them for $235 or so.

I got mine from sears. $400 apiece. I saw some NICE ones at circuit city the other day. I want to say they were about $400 also. Don't recall the brand name though.

Same for me. We got each of our 3 kids a personal dvd last Christmas. Wal-mart, for $197. Still going strong after many road trips, and they use them at home alot too. The other benefit is that you can take them out, or at least put them out of site. I personally know several people with ceiling-mounted displays in their SUV's, at least they did until someone smashed the window to get to them.

I know I read it I can't seem to find the discussion... Someone mentioned about not having the wireless headphones for the factory DVD system, what was the direction they were pointed in to get them?

A permanently mounted system is a little more expensive especially if done correctly. Flush mounting the monitors and a decent alarm system will deter most. But most importantly, in case of a quick stop or accident my kids don’t have six-pound projectiles to deal with.

Thanks for the info everyone...next question is if the headphones provided fit a childs head?. The thread which concerned the headphone availability, provided the manufacturers address found on the outside of the packaging...someone also mentioned audiovox compatability...will post the thread if I find it.
