I just got back from my first trip with our Excursion and our trailer. Went to Disneyland...anyone familiar with the Grapevine? I was so impressed with the way everything worked. I couldn't be happier with the truck. I averaged about 8.2 mpg for the whole trip. Just an FYI.

I take it you have a V10?

What does the trailer weigh?

Do you know what you weighed all together for the trip?

Monsta - Yes I have a V-10, I believe the trailer weighs about 7K Loaded. It is a 28ft Wanderer, I bought it because it was light and was originally going to be pulling with an '85 Chevy Blazer...Yeah RIGHT!!!!!!! Don't try this at home kids, talk about squirrly! Stupid me. Tried it once up the Cuesta Grade, got home and went shopping for the right pull/family vehicle.

OOLimited - I do not know what gears I have, but would like to. I bought it used in November and Don't have any paperwork on it. If you know the RPM's to figure it out I can let you know later.

I will check them when I get home. Took it down to tranny shop, they realized that they could not lube it like they thought (ruled that out). They then looked things over (sort of) they thought it might be the bump stops on the overload springs in the rear, they said "When you leave a stop, those springs climb and work like a traction bar, the sound you are hearing may be those bump stops hitting the leaf springs." Does that sound feasible to you??? They also want to check the bushings (just like you said). Have not had time to get it back in there to check the bushings yet.

That's impressive you remember that. As soon as I get it back in I'll let you know.

I have $2 thats says it's the slip yoke. Have you seen the FAQ page I made over at www.ford-trucks.com in the Super Duty forum? In it, it'll take you to a place where you can see how it's done. Very easy.

In there you'll also find out how to determine what gears you have but if you're going 70 mph and you're clocking 2 grand or a little under, you gotz 3.73s.

Monsta - FYI. Just clicked on your truck page link and went to a dead page. Thought you would want to know.

The link had a little too much information. Try this:

BTW, what is "Cross bars removed" I see on you list of mods?

Gearman...here are the tags as they read

Drivers side "75W140 Synth Oil Only"
Passenger Side "PM421DL301059F18"

There were spaces but no decimals.

Monsta...The slip yoke is what my transmission guy originally thought it was, but that, upon looing at it, is what he decided he could not lube. I may need to find a new tranny guy. I'll take a look at your page. Thanks.
