My 2000 Excursion,V10, on start up this morning, with temps in the low 30's, showed no oil pressure and the oil and temp light came on. I immediatly shut down the engine. Started again and the same result. Started once more and good pressure and no warning lights. This has happened once several weeks before, but only on very cold days. I assume this is a sensor problem, since the oil pressure is other wise very strong. Anyone else have this problem or know of an easy way to check real oil pressure. We are planning a ski trip this January and don't want to drive while showing no oil pressure! |

Scott,
I would suspect the oil pressure sensor too. Maybe dirty internally? Since your have temp and oil pressure "problems" I would also look at the common wiring between the two sensors. Loose or corroded contact ???
You could remove the oil pressure sensor and screw in a gage to get a direct read on the actual oil pressure.
I really like my 03EX, Richard from Knoxville,Tn[quote] |

What weight and brand oil are you using?
What brand filter are you using?
How many miles are on the engine?

I haven't changed the oil since buying from a local dealer in October. It has a motorcraft filter. The gauge problem has only happened twice and only on very cold mornings. What oil is everyone else using? 5W20 is what the dealer recommended, but that seems very thin, especially for the summer |

You can use 5w-30 in your 2000.
I would change the oil first just to see if that cures the problem. You should change it anyway to "know" your change schedule, IMO.
I like the cheap "fixes" first.

Problem was the sending unit. Parts cost 4.95 with labor a total of $69.00. |
