This might just be because I'm a noob, but I can't ever seem to get an accurate reading from my oil dip stick. I changed the oil yesterday morning. Drained the oil completely. Just for the fun of itm I decided to check my dip stick. Every time I put it back in there, there would be oil up past the max line. I put in 5 quarts, turned the engine over and still the same results. The oil is past the max marker. I decided not to put the last quart in there. Is there something that I'm doing wrong? |

Did you change the oil filter as well? |

For some strange reason, I can always read the level better looking at the back side of the dip stick. |

I'ld strongly suggest putting in the 6th quart. The reading can be hard to see sometimes. Typically, looking at the back of the dipstick, there will be a solid line at the oil level, and a line of oil running up the side of the dipstick. Hopefully this helps. |

also, there is often oil around the tube from the engine running. Check it first thing in the morning before you start the X. Any oil from the tube should have drained down.

Yup that did the trick. When I checked it in to morning, it was nice and easy to read. Added the remaining quart. Thanks! |
