First off, hello again everyone! It's been a while since I've been on here. Moved across the country and haven't had time (or even an internet account) to get online.

Anyway, I've been searching high and low trying to get opinions and facts about lift kits.

My wife and I want to lift the X and install 35's. Well, either 35's or 315/75/16's...should be about the same size. The question is, which lift kit will allow this size tire? At the same time, what are the differences between the kits?

I've seen some like Pro-Comp which supply front springs but you block the back. Others sell shackle kits. Still others go all spring. What's the difference besides price? Also, some say that the kit will give you 5.5" of lift yet when installed everyone says it only gains you 4"!

There's just too much info out there!! HELLLLLPPPP!!

We plan on doing mild off-roading but nothing extreme so I don't think I would need the full spring kit. What about doing a shackle flip or flipping the front springs? I've heard of this but never seen anyone do it so I don't know what repurcussions there might be to these approaches.

Any help would be appreciated guys. Thanks!!

Wetherlite,

I wouldn't call myself a lift guru by any circumstances! So I'll stick to what I know about. I would suggest a 5.5" - 6" lift to fit 35's. The first lift on my eXcursion was the 5.5" fabtech all spring. I don't do any off roading either but utilizing the fabtech springs in the back instead of the cheaper blocks and add a leafs will give you a less harsh ride.

I have had no problems with the fabtech lift... However in preparation for additional lift that is being done on mine now it was found the front fabtech springs were only yielding 5" of lift. Still plenty to clear your 35's though.

If money is not a problem I would say The Edge is making the best and strongest lift for the superduty/excursion. If not... Fabtech has an excellent record. There are several others out there... Procomp and Superlift come to mind. I have heard good and bad about both. Read all the posts you can regarding the kind of lift you want to do and experiences others have had with various manufacturers. Also check out pictures of superdutys and excursions with various lift and tire combinations. If you need some links to this type of info email me. Excursion people on a whole seem to be a little Conservative when it comes to skying their excursions... So info is a little harder to find!

Be aware once you lift it you usually wish you would have gone bigger!

Below is a picture of my eXcursion with just the fabtech 5.5" lift and 35/12.50R/16 SuperSwamper SSR's on 16x10 Centerlines.

I'd actually like to go bigger than 35's....I love the looks of 37x12.50's but they are too expensive for my budget. I guess I'll just have to keep searching. It's mainly the looks I'm going for. Some guys put an 8" lift on and 35's but I think that looks stupid...just my opinion. I feel the tires and lift should work in unison to make a "should have come from the factory this way" look. Trick is it's hard to find all the info. The SD's are already 2" higher than our X's so when they say a 3" kit worked fine we'll need at least a 5" and then it may still not look the same.

*sigh* The joys of modding!!

You would need 8" for 37/12.50's! Here is a picture of my eXcursion again. This time with the 5.5" fabtech and a P A 3" body lift with 36/14.50R/16 Parnelli Jones Dirt Grips.
