Be patient guys!! You'd be amazed at how much will suddenly come off of that sticker in the last week of the year. And, if the dealer truely has come down all he can and won't budge even on the 31st....then it just wasn't meant to be.

Also, don't forget that the trade-in value is negotiable too. Lots of dealers say that they can fiddle with the trade-in price by changing the price of the vehicle (add 1000 to the trade-in value adds 1000 to the vehicle price) but they are full of it. They are separate entities and are not necessarily linked.

Good luck!

Well, it wasn't meant to be. Thr truck I was looking at was sold this morning. I made my final offer last night and had to go in with a trade, so it didn't look good. We were $1500 apart, and I shook hands and took a walk. Went by there after hours to see the truck out of the line and near the office. Thought, hmmm, I guess they took my offer, should hear from them in the morning. Well, I did, and it was to let me know it was sold. I am pretty sure that the sales manager told all the salesman that if they had any deals working on that truck to get cooking because they would let me have it on my offer. Guess someone else stepped up. But it was a flawless truck and in the most pristine shape. Guess there will be others!!!!

Ron, just realized where you're located. I just (back in January) moved here from Eglin!

Having wheeled and dealed with the local dealerships I understand your plight. I originally went to Hub Ford in C'view about a 2000 X 2WD with 55,000 (this was a year ago or so) and they wanted 31 and would not budge below 29,800. At the time, and considering it's condition etc, it booked at BEST 28,000. Two days later I decided to take a look again to see what else they had....the same truck was now priced at 28,400!!!!! When I approached them about this BS I got the runaround. Wrote a nasty NASTY letter to the GM, owner and even sent a copy to Ford corporate HQ. No more dealing with Hub.

Eventually I went out to Memphis, TN. You may want to consider this yourself. It's almost 8 hours but well worth the trip if you have the time. Almost all of their dealerships are online and the websites are current with their inventory usually. Virtually the same truck, one in FL one in TN, and the TN truck will be cheaper by a couple of grand. Don't know why. I ended up getting a 2000 4x4, V-10, Limited w/ 58,000 in near pristine condition for 21,400. This was in Oct 02.

Anyway, just a thought....and I also felt like letting you know I understand and feel for ya, esp after having dealt with the dealers in the area.

Good luck!

Sorry to hear it didn't work out Ron. Another will come along. Not to make you feel bad, but I was able to cut a deal. Although my wife and I set $27,000 as our limit, we were able to "find" $2,000 more when I located a particlular truck.

The seller was starting at $32,000, but we cut a deal at $29,000. It's a 2002 PSD 4x4 Limited. It has every option I've ever seen except the DVD/LCD system. I was surprised that it had the memory seat, adjustable pedals, extra steering wheel controls (climate/radio)and the "Homelink" buttons on the visor (don't know if I'll even use these). Were these items options in 2002, or did all Limiteds come with these extra items?

The truck has 47,000 miles on it and is really clean. No scratches or door dings. I have yet find a problem with it.

The only bad experience in the whole deal was that I live in Chicago and I had to go 2 hours south of St. Louis to pick it up. I left at 5:30am Friday and got a speeding ticket 1 mile from my home. Wasted nearly an hour at the beginning of a long day. I was not that mad becuase it made me slow the rest of the trip down. I arrived about 12:30. Test drove it, looked it over and had the transaction completed by 1:00. Picked up the tow dolley I had reserved over the phone with U-Haul, loaded my wifes car ( I had used for the trip) and was back in Chicago by 8:30 that night. It was a long but great trip overall.

So now, I'll be hanging around here reading and learning!

Well, I am still looking. I am kicking myself now as I got to $28,500 on that truck with my trade, but I was still only getting payoff for my old truck and I think it is worth a little more. I was going back to talk cashw ith them, sans trade and low and behold, the truck was sold. I am having a hard time trying to find one now, and am talking with a Ford dealer in Memphis, coincidentally. I hope the coming weeks will produce me a truck, I am getting worn down from looking, but have found at least a half dozen of the 'Blacked' Out Limited '02,s but they are all gas! I have found one blacked out one that's a diesel. It's in Atlanta though. Well, the search continues! And yes, the dealers here inthe area suck!
