My AM radio reception is just flat out horrible. Being a huge sports talk radio fan, that presents a problem for me. Have any of you folks found a decent replacement antenna that takes care of the problem, or do I just need to bite the bullet and get a new radio?

Do you have a video system? Maybe you have an FM modulator turned on interfering with AM reception.

No video system, just really crappy AM reception. It gets flat out horrible if I plug in a cell phone charger. |

Just a stab in the dark here, but...
I had a 1997 Expedition that had very poor AM reception. It turned out that the antenna cable had corroded, mostly on the end where it plugged into the radio. I had a new cable put in, and everything was fine.
I suggest pulling the head unit and inspecting the antenna cable end. Shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to check. |

Actually, I've got XM radio and it's great, especially for trips. Unfortunately, I really want to pick up my local sports talk radio stations in Atlanta better. I live just outside of ATL so it's not a distance problem. |

Just bought my 01 X PSD...same damn thing - terrible radio reception, both AM and FM. Neighbor owns the same vehicle, albeit the V10, he said same thing...radio won't pick up any stations.
Mine has a VCR installed. Could this be a source of the problem?? Hmm... 
'01 X Limited w/PSD - STOCK all the way..and plan to stay that way. Pockets turned inside out with 4 kids! |

I had problem until I realized ou must turn XM off to receive AM. Just a thought.

Radio Shack sells AM boosters. I have to install one in my other car.
