Todd,
Most stereo shops will wire in at the plug where your stereo was pluged in at. The wire gauage is plenty for door speakers, even with an amp. Each door should take about 10 min. to install. The third row takes a little longer to do. If your pushing more than 250w to the doors, day to day then add wire in the doors.

If the listening level is too loud, please inform the driver, so he can promptly pull over, and let you out.

I read a while back about problems with bad am/fm reception. I don't have XM or Sirius yet, so those are not turned on disrupting the signal, but I do get pretty bad am/fm reception. Has anyone had any luck with an am/fm booster, or know of the best one for the Excursion?

I installed a Soundstream Davinci 7 channel amplifier, a Soundstream 15" subwoofer, and 5" x 7" Soundstream Tarantula speakers all around and maintained the factory head unit. Like most of the people interested in doing this, it was to maintain the dual zone listening and to maintain the factory look. The head units today are a lot better than they used to be. I entered my Avalanche into a sound competition last spring with only a powered subwoofer and Clarion speakers and I came in third place. So that goes to tell you. (Goes to tell you that either the head unit was really good or there was no competition. ;) Just kidding.) I will be taking my current Excursion setup to the sound competition in June and hope to have even better results. It sounds absolutely incredible; worlds better than the Avalanche, and I thought that was incredible.

I also kept the factory deck. Had David Navone (davidnavone.com) speaker level to RCA adaptors used in the install. Replaced 4 stock speakers with MB Quart 6.5" components, and had 2 Phoenix Gold amps, and 2 - 12" phoenix gold subs installed in a spare tire subwoofer box I made. All of the ideas I got were from help I got from Superford.org forum. It ROCKS, sounds better than I could have expected.

Now to another question:
Now that I still have the stock look, and stock deck, I looked into getting the Sirius Sattelite Radio adaptor. Turns out it only works with the 2004 audiophile in dash 6-disc. Does anyone know if the 2003 in dash 6-disc can be replaced with the 2004 in dash 6-disc, and not loose any of the functions? (Steering controls, DVD, etc....)

I do not know if the 2004 in-dash 6-disc changer will work in a 2003 Ford Excursion but you might want to explore Precision Interface Electronics' (PIE) web page and see what products they offer. They list the Ford Excursion on their product pages but indicate that these stereos do not have an external CD changer. We know that, and I am not sure if they are indicating if the product will not work, or if they are implying that the PIE product does not allow a passthrough CD changer to be attached. (Essentially, adding a CD changer.) I e-mailed them this morning regarding this because I am interested in a PIE adapter. At the moment, my Kenwood Music Keg's RCA outputs are connected to the RCA inputs on the factory DVD player. (My stereo shop has indicated they can pull the shroud and solder things in directly to hide the cables, but the PIE adapter is an even more elegant solution.) I have used PIE adapters in the past, most recently in my Chevrolet Avalanche. They work flawlessly and the sound quality is incredible. (Comparable to using the line-in on the DVD player and much better than FM modulation.) PIE has also just released a three-input model which I have also asked them about in their e-mail. And what I am very interested in is their new hands-free cellular phone kit that uses the vehicle's stereo for telephone conversations, much like OnStar does. (OnStar is the thing I miss the most about General Motors' vehicles.) Once I receive a response from PIE, I will post it here.
