Just wondering if anyone has had trouble with a tinny noise at about 1300 RPM's? I was told it could be the heat shields but found nothing lose. I also was told it could be the inspection plate on the front of the tranny. Any help would be appriciated.

How did you inspect the heat shields?

Mine did the exact same thing. I actually could only pull one corner of the heat shield. That corner was the culprit. Wouldn't have found if I didn't pull on it.

A hose clamp "fixed" it.

Yea, I have the same noise. Really haven't looked in to it though. Monsta, what heat shields are you talkin about? Exhaust? I thought I read something about this on the FordExcursions.com but I can not find it. Sorry I am not much help. Hang in there maybe someone else will chime in and tell us how to fix it. Oh, and welcome to the club-neighbor.

The shield is one of the many exhaust shields.

The offending shield on mine was on the Y-pipe coming from the driver's side bank of cylinders. This particular one is welded at 4 different places. The weld facing the front of the truck was broken, all the others were fine.

I would suggest that maybe you could crawl under and have someone you trust A LOT rev the engine to 1300 and see if you can locate it that way.

Beerman, it does do it when in PARK too right? You know...with no load on the engine?

Yea, it still does it when in park. I would love to fix this as it is a pet pieve of mine to have little noises like that.
I'll give your idea a try Monsta and see how it works out.
