Hello everybody. I know, you're tired of the door lock questions but I have another one for you. Does anybody happen to have a wiring diagram for the door locks on the Excursions? I recently purchased a 2000 Ex Limited and I, too, am having a problem with the door locks. I'm not completely certain that my problem is due to the actuator's though.

When I lock or unlock the doors via buttons on the door, the locks click and jump but it isn't very forceful. At least not forceful enough to actually lock or unlock the doors. My first thought was that every actuator was bad but then I started to play a bit.

As you know, pushing the 'Unlock' button the remote once simply unlocks the drivers door. Push it again and it unlocks all doors. Well, if I only push the button once for the drivers door, the door unlocks. But if I push it again for the rest of the doors, it's like there isn't enough power there for them all. After a bit more playing, I've found that it almost seems like there's a seperate battery running the door locks. If I'm sitting in the truck, and push the 'Lock' button on the door, they'll thunk fairly loudly but they just don't quite have enough "Ummphh" to actually pull down the locks. With each successive push of the button, the thunk diminishes to the point that they don't even thunk by the fourth or fifth push. Again, almost as if there's a seperate battery with very little juicy left. Therefore, I'm trying to figure out what all is in this circuit. Unfortunately, none of my local auto stores carry a manual for the Excursion yet.

Any info anybody could provide would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

I would still be suspect of the actuators ... not the wiring. My reasoning is the previous owner may have had very few, if any, passengers use the other doors. While the driver's door was opened & closed with some regularity ... and "lapping" its operating surfaces smooth ... the other doors may have sat idle too long. Just my 2-cents worth. Good luck. My problem has been with the door-ajar switches. I've replaced them all (fun task!), and still have the lights come on when washing the Mighty-X ... not every time ... just occasionally ... which makes it all that more frustrating.

But if that were the case and the other doors weren't used like you say, then shouldn't those actuators still be fresh and strong? I'm still with you though, I'm thinking it's the actuators also but I just wanted to see if someone had a diagram so I could make sure that's what it is instead of laying down the money and finding out otherwise.

I'm thinking the "unused" actuators are gunked-up and have taken a "set." I have the 2001 factory wiring diagrams, and what you're looking for extends over several pages.

Cody, my locks on my 2000 X did the exact same thing. I know that Ford redesigned the new actuators that you will have to buy because they changed the part number. I personnaly have had all four changed out. I dont think it is something you would want to do yourself. From what I was told you have to drill out the rivits on the locks and remount them.
The symptoms you describe are exactly what mine were doing. Then about a month later the passenger side went out completely, then the next week the back doors went. They work like a champ with the redesigned actuators. Good Luck

RickyG,

Sounds like you paid someone to replace your lock actuators...right? If so, then how much? I ask, 'cause the front passenger door lock on our '00 Ex is starting to stick

Thanks,
Randy R...

Cobra, I was lucky and had purchased the extended aftermarket warranty!! The plan I bought has a zero deductible, but they paid over $800 to fix all four doors! That did include replacing the passenger side window motor at the same time. The locks should run you about $50-55 on the web. Of course when a mechanic does it you will pay full price plus mark-up unless you can get them to put them in if you buy them. I think the "standard" rate to change the locks is 2 hours per door, with the "standard" price of $75 an hour. That is what my mechanic quoted to the insurance co. I think the dealer price is around $90+ depending on the dealer. Ricky

Thanks Ricky.

I just squirted a bit of WD40 on the lock, and it seems to have loosened up a bit and works better... Maybe I bought myself some time.

Thanks,

Just for the record, it appears that Landyot is 100% correct. I bypassed everything and tried wiring the actuators directly. They operated the same. Apparently the actuators still work but they're just too weak to push/pull the door lock mechanisms. The actual mechanisms in the Excursion have a pretty hefty spring indent that these actuators have to overcome to move the lock and they just don't seem to be strong enough to do it anymore.

As a side note to those who'll be performing this themselves, the dealer's will kill you with their labor. I've taken the actuators out and put them back in within 30 minutes (rear hatch was even easier). Most of that time was spent trying to figure out how they're held in there. There are no rivets. They just slide onto 'L' shaped brackets on the lock mechanism itself. Also, before you buy new actuators, check the prices from Ford online. They're priced at $32.80 online compared to the $42 that my dealer was going to charge me.

Thanks for the help guys!

Cody,

I just bought a 2000 X and the door all of the door locks stick on mine also. Where can I buy these actuators and find the install instructions. How does the door panels come off?
