Buy at http://www.fordpartsonline.com/ I buy my stuff locally since my dealer's parts person gives me a decent discount (she's awfully cute, too). Not a flat rate, but enough that they still make money. I've seen some parts discounted 5%, and others more than 50%. It all depends on their cost for each part. Of course, I do buy a lot from them. The large rubber bushings I use on my radius-rod kits are from Ford.

Removing the door panels is the easy part. You'll need to be a contortionist to reach some of those parts inside the door.

Pull the black plastic panels covering the mirror mounting bolts ... pull straight away from the door frame ... held in by clips. Next, carefully pry off the courtesy light lenses ... there's a slot there for a small screwdriver ... I belive on the aft end. Then pry up the forward end of each window switch panel ... again held by a clip ... tilt the forward end up & disconnect the wiring harness from the switches. Behind the lenses and the switch panels are retainer screws ... remove them. Then (and this is the part I love) simply lift the interior panel straight up ... no clips like older designs. MAKE CERTAIN you unplug the courtesy lamp from the door panel BEFORE you pull the panel completely away from the door.

Then the fun begins when you start studying those door latch mechanisms.

EXACTLY as stated above. There's a whopping two screws holding the door panel in place. Gotta love that!

After studying these things for a while, I've learned that it's MUCH easier to just break the old actuator to get it out. It's hard to explain, but it has two 'L' shaped tabs that hold it onto the lock mechanism and keep it in place.

Add me to the list of 2000 X owners with the same problem. I'm going out of town this week and my wife said "I'll take it to the dealer to have them fix it while you're gone". Luckily I told her to hang on while I check it out. Are all the actuators the same part number? Front, rear and gate doors?
