I bought an 03 5.4 2WD a few weeks ago and so far so good. It came with the chrome 16x7 STEEL wheels. A local parts guy has a set of alloy wheels that came off a 4x4 limited. My questions are as follows-

1. Will they fit a 2wd?
2. I assume a lighter wheel, even in the same size as my existing wheels is going to ride differently(for the better) Is this a correct assumption?

They look nicer than than the steel. If you have seen my earlier posts, I have been asking about mouldings for the exterior like the limited, lifts, etc. and it could be argued that why didn't I just buy an Eddie Bauer or Limited. But I was more concerned about having interior space and taking the 179 tax deduction. Off the dealer lot for a new 2003 2WD XLT for 28750.00 ( Listed for 37200.00) was a lot better than 46000.00 for a 4WD with all the trimmings. New wheels and maybe an aftermarket leather interior for 1250.00 installed still is saving me 14000.00 And I will never go offroad (Thats what my decked out Land Rover is for) I never thought I would own an X but you know what? These things are really f@#$ing cool!

Any way, anyones thoughts on the wheels is greatly appreciated.

My Excursion came with the old style steel wheels that had the wheel covers (hubcaps).

I swapped them out for the polished aluminum 8 hole wheels. I didn't really notice any difference in ride. Although my "convincing theory" to my wife was that less unsprung weight would translate into a smoother ride for her.

Oh and all wheels from the Ex and SD line are interchangeable.
