You, you, you ENGINEER you !!!
Yep, stock is a 45watt night light... but the 9005's are a direct replacement...
I haven't calculated all the amps. volts, etc...
I just listened to the experience on this board and did it !
WILDLY plugged the PIAA xtreme whites in the stock headlamps and 9005's in the stock fogs with the stock wiring harness on both an 02 7.3L X and an 03 6.0L Ex...
both have handled it fine and no problems in about 18 months of heavy use with any of the lights or fuses, or anything...
but - to improve it even further I did get the wiring harness and am putting it in as we speak !
good luck...

Can anybody comment on the difficulty installing the wiring harness and swapping out the bulbs. I know the bulbs are usually twist offs, but as far as being able to reach the bulbs in the headlights and the fog lights.
I was also looking at www.suvlights.com and it looks like there's only one blue connector to plug the factory harness into. Shouldn't there be one for each head light? |

I'll try to help...
the suvlights harness I got are dual units to tie to each battery...
(two sets - each run from one battery to the headlamp on the same side)
Each has 2 relays on each side for high and low beams on that side .
it basically is hooked in series between the OLD headlamp socket and the bulb... then the red and black connectores are hooked directyly on the appropriate battery post...
OK as far as getting to them to make the switch - someone suggested either pulling the batteris or pulling the headlamps themselves...
On the passenger side there is not enough slack in the wire to pull the headlamp, so I taped up the sharp edges of the frame and got a LARGE strong ice chest to stand on and 10 minutes later iit was done.... (You know not to touch the bulbs right ?)
I have a feeling I will have to do something on the drivers side - lot's more "STUFF" in the way over there....
well worth it in my book though...
The foglights are another story...
I would suggest pulling the grill to get to them, then it's easy...
4 or 5 screws along the top, and 4 or 5 clips along the bottom...
Unscrew all but one screww on top... loosen it and have a large long flat blage to release the clips underneath...
The grill is really light so be careful about twisting, just pull straight out as you 'spring' the clips...
When going back on, put the clips on the grill before pushing it back in... much easier..
And search for the zoodad mod, do that while you've got the grill off...

The headlamp SilverStars are in. A few suggestions about the installation. On the driver side the best way to get access is from the middle of the truck outward. There is a rubber flap just in front/beside the air filter that is easy to flatten to gain access without needing to remove the battery or head lamp housing. Also put the SilverStar in the head lamp housing before plugging in the wire. Very easy and you don't run the risk of touching the bulb. On the passagers side, as JohnBoy stated the wiring to very short and hard to work with, I removed the old bulb and placed the SilverStar before connecting the wiring.
Also listen to JohnBoy's suggestion about taping up the sharp metal edges...I'm and few layers lighter now, ouch!
All and all the Silverstars look great, very clear and white. Now on to SUVlights.com (HD Harness) and www.motorhaven.com (Britebox).
I'm not feeling terribly original but you guys have some great ideas! Thanks
MONGO thanks for the pics of the airbox mod.
Cheers

Guys, looking at replacing the fog lights now. This would be a snap if I could get the front plate holder off. Has anyone attempted removing this before? It appears to have unkeyed plastic bolts holding it in place.?!? |

I had to relocate my front pate and it's a once off, never reuse type connector...
suggest pulling the grill,
study the lower grill clips for a bit so u know what ur doing...
4 or 5 screws on the top...
use a long flat blade to release the 4 or 5 clips on the bottom...
and it comes off....
when putting the grill back on, pull the clips from the body and put them on the grill, then it's a snap to put back on..
and again,
I suggest the zoodad mod while grill is off,
and locating your blck heaater plug in the passenger side lower portion of the grill opening if u haven't yet...
Have fun !
