I have never thought of tink's diesel as being lethargic. I find that this baby will get up and go if I ask it too which doesn't happen very often. I don't think I would want much more gidyupgo, It would be like driving a rocket.

Here's my 2002/4wd/7.3PSD mileage experience:
X has 55 k in one year- solo 70mph hwy cruise on: 17/18 almost kissing 19mpg.
Towing huge 9 x 9 flat front car trailer (here's whats weird- empty or full makes almost 0 difference- can you say "wind drag") 10./11.5mpg
Towing typical miserable U Haul 4 wheel 6x12 box trailer 14/15/16 mpg
Get the diesel- the look on people's faces when it starts is worth it!!
Tons of torque, great mileage and if you buy the oil and filters cheaply the maint difference is not too bad.
Here's what I do:
change interval: 5 - 6000 miles
filters: Kmart Penske blow outs are $ .99 cents !!!! (I have 50!!)
Sears Purolators are $ 2.99
Pennzoil Diesel 15/40 oil (K or Walmart $6.00/gal- use it in my
Harleys too)
LubroMoly MOS2 moly oil additive around $5.00 can www.etyproducts.com
ask for Alan(I throw in 2 for x,1 in VW
Rabbit Diesel 218k miles and in the Harleys)
Fuel & supplements: if kerosene or aggie diesel is available I'll
use 50% kero or all aggie- runs fine. For supplements i use
the LubroMoly Diesel HiTest as a treat (2 cans per tank) ,
the excellent Stanadyne blue or on a full tank I buy CHEAP
gallon of ATF/5/30 oil/2 stroke oil at K or Walmart
and throw it in!! I always did this on my VWs and the X
loves it.
Big personal mistakes: I never should have had the 4wd option (not needed in Fla
but IT IS a lifesaver in snow and fun too!!). Surely better mileage due to
weight and lower stance for MPG. Dont get the 4.10s either- I like my 3.73 ratio.
SHAME!!!! FORD- Why cant we get the 6 speed manual tranny in the X ????? Not
everybody who buys these is a candy ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!
