my latest theory on V10 gas milage is similar to the person eating cake while dieting and asking who many calories and if it is good for you. Of course the gas mileage is going to suck ( new technical term) , it is a big V10 pushing and 8000lbs vehicle. The question really is wether is it so bad that the 7K surcharge for the deisel offsets the cost of gasoline. In my neighborhood desiel is $3.29/gallon vs gas which is very " inexpensive" at $2.77/Gallon It would take me almost 6 years to recover the additional cost while driving 30K per year.

You would actually have to add back the depreciation on the diesel since it would ba alot less than the gas vehicle.

I drive my V10 X pretty gently - we use it mainly for family trips which means Interstate driving. I consistently get 16 MPG and this past trip hit 17 MPG, and that's with a full load of luggage-type cargo.. A/C seems to make about .5 MPG difference. Around town, it seems to do about 11-13 MPG. My sense is that the biggest factor in the MPG is the weight of my foot, as I never push the gas down substantially on take-off and seem to get much better mileage than most people report.

Actually I feel real good about my v-10. Just talked to a friend that has one of those new Nissan suv thingies and she said 11mpg was it. That's with a little v-8 and alot less weight. Her husband is selling his heep ( I mean Jeep,) cause it barely will get 10. And we aren't talking off road here, as both of their vehicles are parking lot princesses.

I took a trip to Jacksonville, NC and averaged 14.4 @ 73 mph. Not bad as I used to get 14-16 tops in my Land Rover, and that was when it was running, even better broken down on the side of the road in FL summer. $235 for a rebuilt ps pump! |

One thing I see epople reporting is the short term mileage. They reset it drving down the road. Of course this will read higher.
I keep mine per tank of gas. I drive less then 3 miles to work, longest trip in town is 14 miles to the boat. Towing nothing I can get an average of 8.9-11.4 over the course of 3 tanks.
Long trip towing out to Madison with my boat, 8,500 and running the posted speed limit NO overdrive I was getting 11.2 out and 8.9 back.
Now the truck I had prior to this was a 1500 Ram with a 360. The Ex gets the same, if not slightly better, mileage then a '98 Dodge
Co-workers Cherokee gets teh same as me. His wifes Dodge Dakota with the larger V8 gets the same.
Yes, you put your foot into this pedal and it WILL drop below 6 in a heart beat. Been there done that.
Takes some power to push this weight from a dead stop.
Ad for deisel to gas, Iwill say I was not impressed with a recent trip to Lake of the Ozarks with a friends Duramax towing my boat. We only was getting at best 10.2 per tank of gas. Now this was running 75 the entire time.
now the killer was he did get better mileage then me towing, and it could have cost me upto $400 more in gas using my truck. But my biggest complaint was the RIDE quality. Holey crap!
I am so glad I did not buy a Dually He is running 20" tires with E rated rubber and this thing was a lumber wagon. Sleeping in the backseat I was actually coming off the seat as we went over bridge over passes. The jolting of the bumps was so bad it broke my tire down straps on the front bow of the boat |
