The converter was installed and what a difference! No more shudder when the converter locks up and smoking the tires WOW, feel that torque.

It's about time!

Thanks Midwest to Converters (www.raceconverters.com), so far a great product for the $$$.

you know what...i have a couple of questions, and i thoughtof them as i left the reply box...*geeze*

anyway...its obvious you recommend replacing the converter, but at what mileage did you do this at? Your first clue was the shuddering, right? When I get on it,mainly from a stand still, i can feel my ps shuddering, almost like tire are breaking loose, but thats not it. What brand did you go with? what was the cost if you dont mind telling. Last question, did you do the installation urself? It sounded like you had it done..if I remember right..

Thanx a bunch don!

Have fun,
DX

Bryant,

I don't remember if you have a chip in the truck?

Ever since I put the chip on I noticed the shuddering more and more, but only with the chip. The converter can handle the stop HP/Torque but adding additional power and the chip altering how the tranny works causes the converter to act weird, we'll slip much more.

The odometer just flipped to 28,000 miles. Many miles short of the normal life of a converter stock power. This was more a preventive measure as I have changed the tranny oil twice and had lots of metal fragments coming from the converter from slippage. I knew the tranny was fine but the converter was on it's was out especially when towing my 9000lb boat.

After talking to a lot of people, I decided on a company called Midwest Converters. I have been told they patented the "triple clutch" technology that others are using to date. It wasn't the cheapest or the most expensive. I got a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty, unlimited HP/Torque with the billet steel case for $1020.00. Seeing others @ $1200+ I though I got a good deal? If your not putting or expecting to push 500hp 1000+ torque (which I hope too soon) in the near future the non billet cover can be built with same innards for $300 less.

NO, NO, didn't even think about doing that myself. Don't have the lift or a tranny hoist. I've built a relationship with the local ford dealership's service department and they have a diesel mechanic on staff. He did the work on an issue I thought was to be the rear main seal, which ended up being the turbo O rings leaking. He had pulled the tranny anyway to inspect the seal so I gave him the converter to swap out. Didn't cost me a penny to have installed other that a $100 I dropped to the tech. for a thank you. I dropped the X off @ 3pm Thursday and it was done by 2pm Friday. He worked on it until 10PM Thursday night so I would have it over the weekend.

ok...sweet, thanx for the tips...

i don't have a chip, yet, but I still feel the shudder. So maybe it is the tires breaking loose...idk. But i will soon have a chip in the truck..so when i set the truck up before I have the chip put in, should i invest in a converter? sounds like i should.

ok...I'm young, and learning.

thanx don..ur my hero!

have a good,
