my ex has a very slight oil leak coming from what appears to be the bottom of the intercooler. Its not sucking that much oil in according to the dipstick but, i am getting nervous. What am i looking at for cost on a turbo rebuild? Is it better to just get a whole new one? thanks in advance. |

Jared,
Oil in the housing of the intercooler is normal. Is oil leeking from one of the fins or at the boot connecting to the intercooler?

Thanks for the reply, I found out the same thing. Its normal, thanks to the crankcase breather coughing up oil in there. I am just going to take it all apart and clean off my rubber boots and re-tighten them down. Im glad its normal, very thankfull. However, in a VW TDI if you have oil in the intercooler you have issues. Previous experience led me to believe i had a problem. |

Jared,
How old is the truck? They make boots that more resistant to the oil and will hold up longer. If the boots are older that 3 years you may want to replace them.

TOOK MY 2001 IN TO FORD BECAUSE OF OIL LEAKS AND THEY REBUILT THE TURBO UNDER WARRANTY. MAKE SURE YOU TAKE THE CHIP OUT IF YOU HAVE ONE. |
