Went to my local Stealership to find out what was involved, and how much $$$$.
1. Change Coolant
2. Tune Up (Plugs)
3. Fuel Injector Cleaning (Not sure what is involved or if they jsut pour in a cleaner)
4. Fuel Filter
5. Check (NOT REPLACE) belts/hoses
6. Lube
Said Tranny should be serviced, but I had it done 15K ago.
All for a grand total of......$500-600. He couldn't give me an exact price.
So with that said, I think I am going to be doing things myself.
- Coolant (easy)
- Differential Fluids (easy) What is best to replace with?
- Lube (easy)
- Fuel Filter (easy)
What I am wondering about is:
1. The plugs - Has anyone changed them in a V-10 before? If so how difficult? Any things to be careful of?
2. Fuel Injector Cleaning - Is there something to pour in (Someone told me SEA FOAM from NAPA)
3. Also I am thinking about changing the IAC, idles a little sporadic...
4. Anything else I may be missing/forgetting...
Thanks in advance.
Jason

1. Change Coolant
If your blending use Distilled water, not hard tap water
2. Tune Up (Plugs)
Dont get some funky monkey plugs, use the motorcraft ones.
3. Fuel Injector Cleaning (Not sure what is involved or if they jsut pour in a cleaner)
Yeah, poor in cleaner.
4. Fuel Filter
Easy, not cheap. Oh wait, thats diesel. Yours is cheap, but ugly. Be prepared to suck a mouthfull of gasoline if thats on the framerail. If its anything like late 90's ford trucks you require the special ford fuel line tool. They are little plastic colored doughnuts. Dont forget to purge the system at the shroeder valve on the fuel rail. And unfortunately without a shop lift you will be laying down when the gas comes out of the filter.
- Coolant (easy)
- Differential Fluids (easy) What is best to replace with?
Be carefull, in the rear you have a limited slip, it requires the special ford juice for the limited slip to work right, and it stinks like the worst stank you have ever smelled. Dont get it on your clothes, or you will have to burn them.
- Lube (easy)
- Fuel Filter (easy) |

Jared,
You ain't kidding about the friction modifier smell. When I worked in a shop we would occasionally daub a little on another mechanic's clothes when he wasn't looking -- and then avoid him for the rest of the day.
By the way, my 2000 does NOT have limited slip, but does specify different fluids for front and rear. 85w90 GL-5 for the front, 85w140 (I think) semi-synthetic for the rear.
