Two questions:

1. Are you guys having problem with rain getting into your airbox?
2. Should I wait until the warranty is up before making this mod?

From the research I’ve done, the ZOODAD mod is very common and many guys have implemented it. The F250/F350 grill provides much better rain protection then the honeycomb Excursion grill.

Your Xperience and Xpertise are appreciated

Cheers

I had a SD grill and ZooDad and never had a water problem. Nor did I ever experience ANY increase in performance. But it was fun to cut a hole...

Guys, thanks for the testimonials, I'm going to proceed with this mod.
I need to spend sometime under the hood to see the best way to achieve max fresh air intake and limit my exposure to water/snow. I'm thinking of a 45 degree elbow tipped up to pass air and catch water. Then drill a hole at the bottom of the elbow on an angle to allow any water to drip out. I didn't think connecting the ZooDad pipe to the air box intake is a great idea.?!?

cheers

Clayton,
I didn't connect any pipe to mine...
just cut the hole in the radiator support to allow the air a straighter path...
Does it help >>>> who knows, but it doesn't hurt !!!

I see you're researching the fog lamp upgrade to 9005's ??
DO IT !
works great ...

I hear ya! I was able to change out the passenger side fog without removing the grill or license plate. Took about 15 mins. The picture on the left shows 3 out of 4 lights replaced with Silverstars. Now the drivers side fog is a problem because of the extra rad (AC, I think) placed just behind it. I guess I'll need to remove the grill.

That's why I'm researching the ZOODAD now. From the reasearch I've done some guys have added pipes or an air conduit to concentrate the air towards the airbox intake. This may be why they where running into water problems. Makes sense! Below are instruction I just found for the ZOODAD mod. This is for the other "Green Horns" like me. enjoy!

The "Zoodad Ram Air" is an easy modification that can be done to allow your Power Stroke breath cool air through the intake. I would recommend this upgrade just for the simple fact it is easy. The HP gains are unknown at this time, because you would need to create the same amount of wind as the truck would see at a given speed. I truly feel that the Turbo spools up quicker and the exhaust gas temperature seems to run 40 to 50 degree's cooler at my normal cruising speed. I may consider the aftermarket "Ram Air" kit if the HP gains are worth the $$$$.

Instructions:
1. Remove the Grill
2. Remove the Overhead Console thermocouple
3. Put a rag in the snorkel to prevent dust and fiberglass from entering the air box.
4. Use a hole saw and cut (4) holes in the same shape as the snorkel
5. Use a reciprocating saw blade to cut the fiberglass from corner to corner
6. Go over the edges with a flat file to give the hole a factory look
7. Vacuum the fiber dust up to prevent the dust from being sucked into you intake
8. Install a screen in between the hole and the snorkel to prevent debris from clogging you air
filter
9. Remove the rag from the snorkel and enjoy your "Zoodad Ram Air kit"

The mod will gain you nothing. The best you will do is suck a bird up into your air box. The diesel motor is a massive sucking machine that has no problems picking up air from anywhere. I have been involved in many dyno runs with different diesel trucks and have never found a hp increase with air intakes, unless they were all out race trucks. You can buy these things, and they will give you the tubo whine that you want to hear. You will gain nothing but a possible check engine light.
