Gen X, Good idea to pass on mod. I cover up mod in winter but last winter I sucked the WHOLE intake box full of snow & choked my truck off.
I was driving down hiway in U.P. Mich snowstorm and came up on bread truck jujst billowing diesel smoke out the tailpipe. I wondered why? He was only going 30mph. Anyway I continued along my way & my Pyro climbed to 1000deg. Boost guage wouldn't move & you wanna talk sucking sound squeal. Well, I pulled into fuel station & found the problem. My AIS Ford intake plugged. I believe if my zoodad was open, it would have been a problem even quicker. Hope this info helps!

You're probably right to pass on it then....
it's the ole boxers or breifs issue....
all a matter of choice... and location....
we have rain LOTS of it at times, but no snow....
have had the zoodad on two psd x's now for a total of about 3 years and no issues....
If banks is selling a $1000 (???) intercooler to get cooler air in to the intake/turbo,
and simple physics teaches us that colder air is denser ,
then I think there is benefit to this mod for me
no hard proof, but just cuz I thnk so....
and isn't that what it's all about ?
if I'm happy with it - "It's all good "

Dennis,
I did concert putting in a Zoodad below the Air box intake with a 45 or 90 deg elbow. This would provide cool air to the intake region and provide better protection from snow and ice. Now one could say...."if it's winter, the air is cool enough and this is not needed". One could also say "you don't need to install an elbow for protect in the middle of the summer".
I just decided to pass.........However I would agree that in the middle of summer when it's 100F outside the diesel's hood get pretty toasty.....any cooler air would be good.
Thanks for your input.

Gen X, Lift up the rubber flap above the radiator and look at the intake snorkle. It pulls air from below the bumper. My ZOODAD was capped off, I pulled snow from the bottom, up along side the radiator & in the snorkle. I plug off the radiator & zodad in the winter. I believe a 45 or 90 wouldn't be enough to avoid what happened to me. Maybe, but I doubt it. I'm looking how to avoid it happening again.

I have the Zoo Dad mod with no water problems since I remove the stock air intake. I will make one more hole to get a better and cooler air charge from outside the truck with my Mac cold air intake. I will post some pics later tonight.
