I just purchased a 2000 Ex and have a running board light socket that was filled with water; it appears the terminals corroded away. Can the gray part of the light socket that holds the bulb be removed from the black part (it appears it may) for replacement?

Larry - First, welcome to the forum. I can't answer your question exactly, but as long as you remove the parts from underneath the running boards, you can replace just about anything you need. I've heard of others with flooded lights, so you may want to consider a little sealant when you reinatll the parts. Good luck! |

Larry,
I just purchase a 2000 Excursion last week. My drivers side front running board light was smoking when I was test driving it so the dealer is fixing it today. They told me they need to replace the socket because it was burned pretty good. They told me it was a $6 dollar part. They are also going to put some sealer around the housing underneath.

Larry....We just bought a 2000 Ex Ltd last week as well and our passanger side running boards lights were having problems as well...one completely burned out and the other was acting like it was shorting out. After climbing under there to replace the bulbs my husband noticed the one that had completely burned out need to have the socket replaced as well...and they do come off. We had to order the part from the Ford Dealership as none of the auto part stores had it. The other light had water in it. My husband sealed both lights and we are still waiting on the new socket to come in (should be here tomorrow!).
Hope this helps! |
