Hi All, I just bought an 04 Eddie Bauer V-10 and am very happy with it so far. I have a few questions that I haven't found in the posts (is there a search function somewhere?).

First, I see a lot of ads for performance-enhancing modules on ebay which claim to alter the timing and/or intake air temperature with a removable, no tools installation. Are these devices valid, and if so, will they do any damage?

Second, what is underneath the third row passenger side armrest which doesn't allow that space to be used as a storage bin like the other side? And should there really only be one heater vent in that row (the vent on the driver side in the third row has no cut outs to allow air through).

Third, is it really true that I can't drive through water higher than the hubs?! I'm new to 4x4's, but I thought that was the whole point. What's the use if I can't cross a stream or go through a puddle on the way to the campground?

Fourth, if I'm stuck in the snow and want to engage 4 Low, will the hubs lock immediately or do they need some forward motion? Should I get out and lock them manually to be sure?

Thanks

Nope. Not yet.

No. If you want real performance get a chip or Tuner but you'll have to run 91 or better octane fuel.

The rear AC and its plumbing takes up most of the room. Yes, only one place for heat to come from. It works well though! (i used to live in MASS. where it can get cold.)

You can go through puddles and the like but if you submerge the axle the fluid inside will need to be changed. They are not completely sealed.

You need "some" forward motion. Best bet is to manually lock them whenever you think you may encounter inclement conditions. Then the switch will engage the transfer case. If you get stuck in snow you'll more than likely be in 4x4 anyway. Make sure you STOP, put the tranny in Neutral and then switch it to 4LO.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new truck!

Thanks.

As far as the axle submersion, does it only refer to the front axle or do I have to keep both out of the water? For example, what is the procedure for launching a boat? Are the other trucks I see with their back ends in the water different than the Excursion?

Also, is there a secret to using the A/C and is there an actual second air conditioner that supplies cold air to the rear, or does it just come from the front air system? I'm getting no cold air out of the rear vents, and only intermittent cold air in the front. I've read the manual several times to see if I was missing something, and had the dealer charge the system, but still no cold air.

If you can figure out how to run vent tubes from the axles to the airbox, that would be beneficial. I don't know that those who launch boats actually think about it, but I don't know that it's really a problem for them unless they keep the axles submurged for an extended period of time.

As for the A/C, there is only one compressor. The front and rear units feed from it. I have had issues with getting the rear temp to be what I want it to but never the front. 'not sure what's going on there.
