On the vehicles that have gotten the 315X70RX17 tires, is there adequate clearance on the 2wd or do you need the additional space on the 4x4. Also, did you then take it to the dealer to "flash" the computer to compensate for the greater size?
Could someone please respond to my question, I'm looking to get new tires with-in the next 2 weeks and need to know what my options are. |

Sorry for the delay Glen. You have probably moved forward with the tire change anyway.
I have the 315/70R17's and really don't see much a difference in odometer.
I was told by the dealer our X's (and F series) speed is calculated at the drive shaft by s sensor and somhow compensates for tire size change.

I've been doing studying on tires sizes and lifts. From what I hear, the biggest tire you can put on a stock 4x4 x, is 305x75rx16. If you go 315's, you will need a lift. On a 2x4, I dont know. Probably 285's. 295's are going to be the same hiegth as 305's.
As far as reflashing, it wont need to be done... if you dont want to deal with it. But to be on the safe side, and to be sure of yourself and vehicle, it would be smart. You can do a goolge search "tire deminsion calculator", and go to the first result. When u calculate the tire sizes, it will give you an odometer difference and rpm difference.
I hope this helps

Ed,
Truthfully, Yes they do rub, but only in a hard turn and under suspension compression. The BF Goodrich’s are VERY aggressive tread pattern. Maybe if it wasn't so aggressive it wouldn't rub, but so be it. They bennifits outweight the rubbing by far. Better looking and the X has a beter stance and stability.
To combat the rubbing and not have to lift the X I riveted an aluminum plate right behind the tire and painted it black. I have however looked into adding new leaf springs up front lifting the front end 2-2.5 inches that should clear the rub by 90%. That's an additional $300 I really don't want to spend.
I very leery of lifting the X being so top heavy as it stands semi stock. My X is used daily to and from work and family duties and I don't or need that I don't know feeling around corners. I am investing into a sway bar to limit sway though.

UPDATE-
I'm going a hanger route on fronts where the stock hanger is replace and it actually lifts the truck about 3". The plus is I don't have to modify anything suspension wise.. I'm also putting in super duty 4" lift blocks in the rear. Stock X's are on 2" and this will give me a level ride while clearing my beefy 315's (35") tires.
