Hello All.

I'm looking at sway bars now and I'm trying to get my head around the difference of the stock sway bars and a third party one. The Hellwig measure 1 1/2 inches diameter for the front and 1 1/4 inches for the back. Does anyone know what the stock bars measure. It there a big difference.

Thanks!

There's a substantial difference, though the Ford diameter escapes me at the moment. Get you one ... ya' won't regret it.

Clayton,
IIRC stock is 24 MM ?????

AT LEAST get a Hellwig where you don't have one !!!

It's a WORLD of difference!

Well, Duh...
I guess I should have said the REAR was 24 MM on the 4x4...
unless u got the camper package and then it's 30 MM... IIRC...

and have heard the rear can be had from Ford for as little as $50 ????

Don't get me wrong, I have stock front and back sway bars now. I'm just wondering if the Hellrig bars are larger and therefore work better, or is a bar just a bar and there is no difference. I'm assuming all Excursions have stock sway bars and the Hellrig is a better bar and is worth the $ to replace the stock bars. Maybe I'm and shouldn't waste me money.

Thanks for your input as always!

Cheers

all 4x4's have a rear sway bar and all excursions have front bars...

is the hellwig better? LOT'S of dicussion about that...
I'm staying with the stock bar for now... it does work...
too many other mods I want to do before replacing the rear sway bar...
but some have said the hellwig is stouter and has more torsional strength....

JohnBoy -- Which model year of the 4x4 Excursion ALL have rear sway bars? My 2001 didn't. A buddy's 2003 doesn't. Is this something Ford started with the 2004 model?

BTW ... I installed the Hellwig bar and have nothing but praise for it. My ONLY complaint is it attaches to the outboard side of the framerails in lieu of inboard like the OEM units.
