Just have a quick question I went and had the oil changed at jiffy lube and the computer said to use 5w 20 oil the sticker under the hood said 5w 30. They asked me witch one I wanted. I went with the sticker under the hood 5w30. Was this the right choice? thanks for your help.. Mike |

I use 5W30 Motorcraft. 5W20 is for later models, 2002 and up I believe. Ford came out with some kind of statement saying they want everyone to start using 5W20 instead of 5W30 not too long ago. Most of the opinions that I've read say this is an attempt to get a better CAFE number and not necessarily better for your engine. It may not make any difference, but I like the 30 weight better.

I'm running 10W-30, even though the spec's and the "710" cap under the hood say to use 5W-20 on my 2001 V10. In those countries where 5W-20 is not available, the Excursions come with info from FMC that tells the owners to use 5W-30 or 10W-30 (I can't recall which one it is). The CAFE reference is correct ... it's just to provide a smidgeon extra MPG ... but it sure can't be too good for the engine ... especially in warmer climates and under heavy loads. |
