I own a 2002 Diesel Powerstroke X. I'll be driving down the freeway and periodically I feel a strong jerk or thud under the car and it feels that it's coming under the back end of the car. Sometimes it happens every day & sometimes every few days. I am sure that i'm maintaining a steady speed and not letting off of the gas. The car has about 40K miles on it. I have a service warranty so the car has been well maintained. Anyone else experienced this? |

doesnt sound to much like a rear end. Typically, you would get a high pitched squeal when on the throttle, and lack of sound when coasting.
Sounds like your letting off the skinny pedal and truck is downshifting. Sometimes the downshift can result in a clunk, or thump depending on your speed. the tranny has to hunt around for the right gear.
mine does it on occasion when all the elements are in the right place for it to happen. |

I guess i'm a bit paranoid since this problem coincidentally started when my 36,000 mile warranty expired. As I mentioned, I had purchased the service warranty and figured that I was covered for service aad well as for at least 5 year. My wife called the dealer where we get the vehcile serviced regarding the current problem thinking that the warranty was still in effect and found out that it expired at 36,000. Ht dealer that sled us the veehicle never mentioned a 36,000 mile warranty to us. Our goal was to have the vehicle completely serviced and for any problems to be fixed.
Perhaps this jerking problem under the car is no problem & maybe we should purchase the extended warranty since our experience with the X has been positive until now. I called the dealer today and described the problem and they had no resolution. We've had a good experience with them so I'd like to regard them as honest. Any other suggestions?
Thanks. |
